MidSide EncoderDecoder changes the standard stereo LR signal in the pair Mid/Side (MS), that are the sum (L+R=Mid) and difference (L-R=Side).
Now you can process only the mono part of your sound (Mid), or the stereo part (Side). You can achieve very interesting results: some people filter with different EQ's Mid and Side, or use two compressors with slightly different attack and release... some mastering engineers add a little distortion to the side part... or you can filter annoying noises from FM radio recordings...
A friend talked me about decoding some Mid/Side recordings. I say no problem that it's very easy with Kyma, but for the future he needs a quality hardware box. Searching the web we found some Mid/Side hardware at prices like $1700... he decided to make a DIY box for monitoring and go to my studio for quality decoding. That's great, Kyma is infinite.
The ZIP: I have encapsulated two classes, Mid-Side Encode and Mid-Side Decode, you have the expanded version of the classes, an example with a Low Pass filter in Side and a two Sounds for external processing the Mid-Side pair. The png's of the classes symbolizes the encoding-decoding of Mid/Side pairs with a cardiodid and figure-eight microphones polar patterns.
