Author | Topic: Kyma and 1GB RAM in G4 |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hello, Is Kyma 5.2 compatible with 1GB RAM? I just upgraded to 1GB and now Kyma 5.2 won't start up completely. First, half of the startup messages are blank then it stops at the "accept terms" box and with no buttons.. just gray background. Haven’t had the time to dig out the Mac from the racks yet to remove RAM for testing (quite a hazzle) so I thought I’d ask here first if it’s a known problem. All other apps including Logic Audio runs fine. Also tried to give Kyma more memory. Martin IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I experienced something similar when upgrading to 572MB of RAM on my Powerbook. I deleted the preferences file, but I think I had to do this a couple of times before Kyma worked again. My problems where exactly what you´re describing. /Øivind/ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() In the installation guide for 5.2 that accompanies the firewire interface (at least), Mac users are warned that there may be problems if there is more than 520M available ram when Kyma starts up. It is recommended that you open a document or program which will consume memory beyond 520M and you should be OK. You can shut down the other app/document once the startup sequence has completed and you're live with Kyma. This has been my experience on my desktop G4. Why don't you try getting free ram down to under 520M and see if it starts OK then? If so, close out the other running programs and see if you are still OK. Good luck! ![]() ![]() ![]() What also helps is to increase the preferred and minimum memory size in the Kyma memory requirements. I have them at 300.000 and 200.000 K, but maybe it could be less. Succes, David. [This message has been edited by dgkiers (edited 09 February 2002).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks, Well it works if I give Logic 600mb and then start Kyma, but not if I start Logic with say 160mb and launch Simpletext with 500mb first instead. I hope this is not going to be a permanent condition..? Can it be fixed in the OS9.x version? Martin [This message has been edited by Martin Aune (edited 10 February 2002).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Doesn´t this thread qualify for a response from SSC? If anyone has a more or less definitive answer, it should be them... /Øivind/ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Bill Felton has already answered the question (as well as pointed out where one can find it in the installation guide should you need to read more about it). No, this is not permanent (is anything in software ever permanent?) We are working on a port to a new Smalltalk (in fact, I just took time out from that to write this) which will fix this annoyance (and also make it possible to run Kyma under OS X and XP). ![]() ![]() ![]() If you look farther back in this support area, posted on 8 Oktober 2000 topic: memory expansion problems there is a explanation about this problem. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the explanation. I did a search for “memory” in the first place, but I’m afraid I didn’t catch that the search engine defaults to Announcements and Upcoming Events only unless you log in once more underneath. But now I found it :) Thanks again, IP: Logged |
