Hi,

I´m just about to buy myself a Wacom tablet to hook up with the KYMA and I wonder - what are you using? The Intuos looks nice with the extra buttons and sensitivity, but are the buttons assignable from within the KYMA? Also regarding size, is A5 enough or would you advice me to go for an A4?

Best

Hi Magnus,

I would definitely recommend getting an intuous. You can assign the extra buttons on the tablet for key combinations in Kyma (for example to play sounds or for zooming), but not to control hot values within the sounds (as far as I know). But the extra pen parameters are definitely worth it (such as penTilt), and those you can definitely use to control sounds.

As for the size, I went with an A4. The extra space is very useful with the pen, but it is especially nice to have when you're using the wacom mouse, which I find very handy by the way. Have fun!

Best,

Hector

I personally find the smallest size very nice (4x5), particularly since I take it on the road. I imagine the larger sizes maybe give you a finer degree of control with small movements, but otherwise I would think they would be about the same in functionality (I admit I haven't tried a larger size). Also, the larger size would be easier to use if you wanted more than 2 octaves of notes when using the pad like a keyboard (with the eraser end).

Hmm, just went to the wacom site and see that they have wide sizes. That must be new, I didn't see that when I was looking for one. I'm not sure how that would feel - it would still map to the same range, but it could be good for KBD sounds.

I use the Inuous 3 A4 size a lot - I used to have a Graphire A5 size - I travel with mine a lot - no problem it is no larger than a laptop. The pen angle data is particuarly useful for timbre variations etc. The sensativity is useful in z/y, but I fund the Z too sensative to get useful results from, unless used for gross changes such as filters or volume, or sample switching.

I use the scroll bars on the side of the Intuous3 to control the output level tool - helps me set overall levels for pieces and fade out at the end etc - you can do this by grabbing the fader with the mouse and then the scroll bar will work and remain assigned until you use the mouse again.

The range of pens for the Intuous3 also gives you a lot oif interesting data to play with, and you can use multiple pens and assign them for different tasks at different stages of your timeline or what ever you like - I have 3 pens and one of them in the arts open which also gives you a caligraphy like pen nib thickness to play with.

definatelly recommend the Intuous3 at A4 - however I note some woreless tablets coming out so might be worth waiting a while to see if they release the Intuous as wireless.

Cheers

Garth

Hmm, wireless you say... that would indeed be nice. But they would probably cost a fortune, don´t you think?

Thanks for all replies. I think I´ll go for the Intos A4 at this time. No need for a live setup - I hide out in my studio: ;-)

Best
