Do you think there will ever be a core audio driver for the Capybara? I fondly remeber those OS 9 ASIO beta days and wish so hard for a Core Audio Driver for Panther.

Well,
Weīre quite a bunch of windows-users who have been waiting
in vain for that ASIO-driver....

I think Kyma is a fantastic piece of software, but it would be
super to have the Capy function as a soundcard.

So does that mean an OS X version of Capybara Core Audio is weeks away? Or do I exist in a reality barrier?

This makes a stronger case for me to upgrade my Capy from 4 to 8 INS/OUTS, if I can use it with an OSX Core Audio Driver

I agree more outputs would be great. Here is my logic on the matter. I have Pro Tools TDM Mix Plus. I like ot for what it is, but my ears tell me the input and output of the Capybara has a sweetness to it that I have not heard elsewhere. So when I use other programs like Nuendo and Logic I would love to have access to the Capy as a front end.

Now perhaps if we were willing to pay for the core audio and asio driver that may motivate them to speed up the process.

I for one will beta test anything for OS X to get core audio going here.

Well, the good news is that it's at the top of the list right now (in other words, we are working on it as we speak! So I guess that means I should stop typing in the forum and get back to coding asap!!)

......Any news?......
I would benefit a lot from this, making the Capy the audio I/O of my
Dell and Powerbook laptops.

Please?

It would be a dream, a unique experience to take those incredible AD convertors, churning away deep inside the power factory of the elusive Capybara, as a front end to Nuendo.

I wait, knowing this euphoric day will come. A link to download Symbolic Sound core audio OS X.

I've been outputting mixes from Digital Performer back into the the Capybara digitally on the same computer in real time. That has worked well for me. When I am using the KYMA sounds I have to drop the mix to a DAT tape and after it is recorded, send it back to the Capybara to bring the mix back into the computer. It sounds real clean that way.

If I could access the system through Core Audio, that would be even better.

Another point, if Core Audio was implemented, which it sounds like it will be. It would be nice to have an Output Recorder tool that waited for the timeline to be played and recorded the output of the Capybara Core Audio device back into the computer (without hardwiring the digital outs to the digital ins). They have this on DSP Quattro and it is a very useful feature.

Thanks Kurt and Carla for your hard work on the coding.

"an Output Recorder tool that waited for the timeline to be played and recorded the output of the Capybara Core Audio device back into the computer (without hardwiring the digital outs to the digital ins)."

Could you use the Record to Disk option from the Action menu to achieve this result? (in the current version of Kyma). That would produce a disk file that you could read in Kyma using the GenericSource or DiskPlayer modules or access from other software that recognizes SDII, AIFF, or WAV files.

Hope this doesnīt sound too impatient, but would really like to know how the CoreAudio drivers for Kyma are coming along. Especially as my current PCI audio card is not compatible with the new PCI-X standard used in the new G5s.

My hoping is not only regarding the use of Capybara for Audio I/O....

Additionally;

An AudioUnit Kyma interface would really help to integrate Kyma into my Music/Sound production.

Best regards,
Andrew

We're making excellent progress on the core audio. Recently, though, we've been dealt a setback by Apple who have made "changes" to the 10.3.5 FireWire audio drivers (in other words, they accidentally broke them in 10.3.5). To their credit, they have been working with us to help get these problems corrected. In the meantime, though we are at their mercy, forced to wait (impatiently) for them to release an updated driver that works.

Apropos 10.3.5,

I managed to competely break my audio setup on my mac with 10.3.5 --->

For some (weird) reason I decided to reformat my OSX volume with a Unix FileSystem (UFS) and installed 10.3.5. A few programmes, not only Kyma, stopped working all together. Kyma lost its Splash screen and the graphics were worse than the old OSX Kyma graphic issues )

I only discovered and had clues about the solution to the problem when I tried reinstalling Kyma - the Kyma programme couldnīt be successfully copied onto the UFS volume.....

Reformatting the volume to Mac OS Extended and using 10.3.3 solved all issues - spent a nice two days sorting that one out!!

*** BTW This isnīt a request for UFS support! ) ***

Just reporting a gotcha.

Andrew

Hi SSC,

Today Apple Computer released an OSX 10.3.6 update. Does that release have the updated
driver that corrects their FireWire mistake for Kyma core audio support?

Thanks for an updated status report.

Unfortunately not.

We have sent Apple a Flame to use to test against their drivers. They have acknowledged problems in their drivers and are working to correct them. We have no ETA from them on when the drivers will be fixed.

When it is complete will the core audio driver work like the digidesign core audio driver in that it will run independent of the Kyma application?

We are currently working closely with Microsoft to get the Windows version finalized. We have been unable to make any progress with Apple.
