Hi - any help greatly appreciated. In order to simplify my Midi setup (ha ha) and manage the midi i/o into my main computer, I purchased a Midi merge and thru box, the merge box is attached to several external devices and then hooks into my main midi interface. My external keyboards and instruments work just fine with this setup (VSTs, Cubase, Arturia stand-alone apps, etc) with the exception of Kyma.

In Kyma, the Midi I/Os are listed as "silent device" in this setup. I can't use my master keyboards to control Kyma.

WIthout redoing the Midi setup yet again just for Kyma, what is the cause of "silent device" and how can I fix this? By the way, using the Midi monitor, Kyma is not getting any midi signal, which kind of baffles me.

Thanks in advance

Hello

How r routing midi into Kyma ? Are you routing it via your audio interface? Other than the merge box has anything else changed in your setup?

Thanks for asking. The audio interface is a TC Electronic Digital Konnekt x32, but Midi is routed to the computer ultimately through a MOTU Midi AV Timepiece interface via the Midi Merge. As I mentioned, other apps on my Mac are getting the Midi signal but not Kyma.

I'm wondering if any midi is getting to Kyma ? If you route a midi part from a track in cubase to Kyma does it receive midi?

The midi device/ "silent device " pull down window : does it have an option to select the TC interface? I am making a presumption that your midi merge device is outputting to your mtp and from there you're bussing midi to the Kyma via the TC.

I am not familiar with the midi merge box model - dies it output via standard midi cables or is it a USB connection? If it's the latter and you have it plugged directly into the paca then it may not be supported

The standard KymaX installation does not have a direct means to send MIDI from the computer to the Pacarana. So if understand your configuration you do not currently have a way for either software applications, or your various MIDI devices, to communicate with Kyma sounds.

There are a couple of options.

The first is to create a physical MIDI connection between your computer and the Pacarana. I believe you are using a TC Digital Konnekt x32 as your Pacarana soundcard. Unfortunately that device lacks any type of MIDI I/O so right now your Pacarana is without MIDI (this is why you see "silent device"). So you need to add a USB MIDI interface to the Pacarana and assign that as the Pacarana's physical MIDI device if you wish to create a physical MIDI connection to your computer. Likewise on your computer you will also need to dedicate a MIDI I/O for connecting to the Pacarana.

The second is to take advantage of the Pacarana's "MIDI-over-OSC" facility. This requires that your Pacarana's Ethernet port be connected to your computer, either through a standard router, or using a direct connection. However the connection is just one piece of the puzzle. You also need to run an application on your computer that creates a virtual MIDI port, and also converts MIDI sent/received from that port into appropriate OSC messages. There are a number of ways to achieve this. If your Kyma computer is running OSX then have a look at our solution, KymaConnect. It has everything you need, and it also contains a virtual MIDI merger and router. See http://www.delora.com/delora_products/kymaconnect/kymaconnect.html for more information.

Doug - Thanks for taking the time to write out this explanation, very helpful. I have PacaConnect so will start running that. I may also switch over to a MOTU Travelite interface that has been sitting in a box here for a few years. Your info reminded me to use the Delora product I already have! My G5 is an older power mac, so I can't use KymaConnect.
Thanks
