now that firewire is out for kyma (its great)
would there eventually be a reason to have
a usb2 interface?

The plan is to follow the FireWire path (which will, at some point in the future, include 1394b--the 800-1600 Mbps)

Will the current Flame support these standards or will it be a matter of upgrading in the future?

Yes, the new standards will be backward compatible (when they come out--next year is the *earliest* they will even have chips available that can implement it)
