Here is a sound created to mimmick a synthesizer sound found in Reason that I happen to like. Start it running and allow the delay to build up and then it becomes quite enchanting.

The synthesizer is comprised of a pair of sub-synthesizers tuned one octave apart and panned to and fro in opposite directions. Each sub-synthesizer is simply a pair of sawtooth oscillators mixed with some pink noise. One oscillator is detuned from the other by a user controllable amount, in cents (1200 cents = 1 octave, 100 cents = 1 semitone).

These synthesizers are controlled with amplitude ADSR envelopes and filtered. The filters are simple 12 dB/octave lowpass filters, also controlled in cutoff by an ADSR and a user Cutoff parameter.

The stereo output is sent directly to the output with proportion !Dry, and passed through a stereo ping-pong delay in porportion !Wet. The ping-pong delay is set to delay in steps of 16th notes, with the feedback and direct signals passing through a bandpass filter and attenuated each go'round.

An analog sequencer drives the synthesizers in the sequence E4-B4-E5,E4-B4-D4,E4-B4. The !LogFreq parameter controls the base pitch, so changing up or down by 12 nn units shifts the pattern by octaves.

Even at 48 KHz sample rate, this Sound requires only 3 DSP's.

[Try automating !Cutoff1 and !Cutoff2 to brighten or darken the two sub-synthesizers. The effect is quite compelling!.]

Enjoy!

- DM
