I have problem when using Kyma with firewire, along with the digi MBOX with USB. When I have a live sound going in Kyma and I’m working in ProToolz I get skips and slight lockups in the Capy. My guess is that the computer is always ‘checking’ to see if firewire is connected and I’m getting a bottleneck causing the audio ‘lockups’ in the capy. (maybe from the firewire and usb polling at the same time?) Also, if I have protools up and launch Kyma I get a ‘lockup’ in the kyma DSP initialization until I move the cursor with the trackpad! (this is another reason whey I thing firewire is the culprit)

Anyone know more than I go about data communication protocols?

Just some information: It is a known issue with the MBOX that you need do turn off the Ethernet extensions when you don’t have your computer on a network…….your computer is always looking for a connection thus hogging resources.

System: ibook 700 (too cool!), 256 ram, mbox (usb) capy (firewire)

When used independently, both the firewire/kyma and the MBOX are rock solid.

The good news: The MBOX can be used as a headphone amp for the capy without Protoolz launched …very cool .

Anyone who is thinking of getting the FLAME for the cappy, I highly suggest it!
Anyone thinking of getting an MBOX, I highly suggest his too! I’ve been going lots of nature recording with the MBOX and an ibook, and I can finally put the portable DAT to rest....this thing works.

If the PowerBook seems to be hung until you move the mouse, it is most likely due to the Processor Cycling option in the Advanced settings of the Energy Saver control panel.

When processor cycling is turned on, the Mac OS reduces the processor speed dramatically (by a factor of 10 or more) after a period of inactivity. Moving the mouse, pressing the shift key, etc. is needed to make the OS think that you are actually using the computer and not away at a coffee break. (For maximum performance of your iBook, you should uncheck all of the "Other Options" on the Advanced Settings tab of the Energy Saver control panel.)
