I really want some good reading material (on paper) but books on psychoacoustics and synthesis are quite pricey. I would love to initiate a trade with someone in the kyma community for any such books they have found to be inspiring or educational. I am also open to books on other subjects that have brain flipping tendencies- microbiology, ethnobotany, vegan cooking.

These things I would be happy to trade for new material

"quantum reality" by Nick Herbert
"The Emperors New Mind" by Roger Penrose
"A beginner's guide to constructing the universe" be Michael S. Schneider
"Vintage synthesizers" by Mark Vail
"the nature of light and colour in the open air" by M. Minnaert
"the complete reference for tabla volume 1 Fundamentals of Tabla" by David R courtney
"Chaos" by James Gleick

OR Homaemade vegan pastries and cookies sent overnight throught the mail
or a few burned cds of my favorite music and sound.
Please respond soon my cappy is many miles away being repaired and my mind is searching all of the nooks and crannies of this world for madness...
My email is JOWE@JUNO.COm

I don't have anything to share at the moment
but I'm curious about those 2 books.

"quantum reality" by Nick Herbert
"The Emperors New Mind" by Roger Penrose

Is quantum reality accessible for someone who never studied
physics seriously? Is it a kind of book that try to apply
(aestheticcaly) this micro-world theory to our sensible world?

What The Emperors New Mind is talking about?

Karl

btw, there are some very good free PDF files that can be found on the web. You can always print them for cheap (B&W)
in most "copy office" (I don't know how it's called in english..).

and some online Smalltalk and programming books at: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Learn/Smalltalk

Thanks for the recomendations.
While yes I could probably print documents to read (because yes, i do not like to read off a monitor) I was just interested in the sustainable trade of knowledge -no extra trees nor un-ecological energy making its way into circulation.
About reading pdfs off the computer- if i am in front of a computer, i would much rather be tweaking sounds than reading- if i am not tweaking sounds, then i want to be reading about tweaking sonds, um or making love or eating good vegan food or experiencing some inexpressable bliss of some sort. Thanks for the tips guys- I am especially looking forward to the new kyma manuel as reading material- kurt and carla ARE my favorite authors anyway! (dr seuss is a close second and hakim bey a good third)

If you ever get into any difficulty understanding CapyTalk expressions or Z-Planes, then I recommend the Penrose book. It will have your brain aching! Once you're past the tiling algorithms and turing machines...then it really gets bad!! )

Basically, Penrose is saying our current understanding of physics is crap - oops, I mean, could do with a few new breakthrough theories...
