Author | Topic: FW 800 vs. FW 400 |

![]() ![]() ![]() We've recently purchased a new computer which came with a built-in Firewire 400. The engineer who made the purchase says that the vendor is recommending against adding a Firewire 800 board (due to heat considerations in an already hot machine), but rather, getting an external FW800 to FW400 adapter. What do we lose by going that route? P.S. Our machines are unplugged at the moment, as the Konnekt-8 is out for service, but I think I had it connected as K8 <- FW-400 -> Paca <- FW-800 -> Mac The new computer's a PC. ![]() ![]() ![]() The external adapter is the same thing as a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 cable, which you can get at most computer outlets or on-line. (FireWire 800 can automatically convert itself to FireWire 400 when a cable with the correct pinout is used.) IP: Logged |
