Hi folks,

I was checking out this Max video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5SObE8JSX8

Interesting how the playback speed can be automatically mapped to preserve transients, yet allow resonances to ring out. What would be the best approach to build something like this in Kyma?

Thanks!

Jack

You could try using the SpectrumVoicedUnvoiced module to modulate the TimeIndex. Also check out Pete's Kwerk stuff in the tweaky.
And there's another approach for extreme time stretching by carla using the crossfilter, it can also be found in the tweaky.
I think you can do way better than in the video with Kyma

Best,
G

hey jack,
in addition to gustlīs SpectrumVoicedUnvoiced-controllling-playback-speed suggestion,
you could try running two analysis in parallel. one for the unvoiced components (with a better timeresolution) and the other one for the unvoiced components (with better freq resolution). than use SpectrumVoicedUnvoiced to crossfade between the two analysis-results before resynthesis.

ciao, johannes

Thanks for the suggestions, I have some time to play around today so I'll have a crack at it

Will post if I get some good results!

You can also do this with TAU. To see an example, in the TAU editor, click the Gallery button. There is an example in timeFrequencyScaling called "Unvoiced is unscaled: <your file name here>". It's an example of using the TauPlayer to time-stretch and/or warp the frequency and/or formant scale on the voiced parts only (the unvoiced time intervals are unaffected by the warping).

Thanks for the tips, I built a cool sound yesterday that lets you stretch voiced / unvoiced independently. I'll have a go with the TAU today, will be interesting to see how that compares Once I've worked on it a bit more, I'll post up on the tweaky...

Cheers,
Jack

Hi

Sorry for spamming this thread but I am very interested in time stretching a music for a work I am doing right now.
When Gustl talks about putting a SpectrumVoiceUnvoiced module to modulate TimeIndex do you refer to TimeIndex in a SampleCloud or other Kyma module?

Creative regards

Luis Aly
