I discovered that v5.18 just hangs at the splash screen when run on a computer without a Capy. I went back to v5.12 and the program works fine. I didn't try the inbetween versions and working with 5.12 is fine for now but at sometime it would be nice to be up to date.

Hmm...we've been able to use 5.18 in that mode here... I wonder if you might have had an preferences file? Or that your interface card was not plugged in at the time? Could you please try it again after throwing away the preferences and making certain your card is present? Thanks for letting us know whether this fixes it or not.

Frank, are you doing this without a card installed on a PC?

Thanks,

John

Up to v5.12, Kyma runs on my one of my Windows PCs without a card of any sort, editing only, of course. I think that Kyma assumes that there must be an ISA card as I remember Kyma once ask about that. I guess that was pushing the envelope. Are the newer versions of Kyma not ISA card compatible? Not a big issue for me just curious why the situation changed. I noticed that Capybara.exe got quite a bit bigger in recent releases.

Not to confuse the issue any further, but what impact will the new
Firewire interface have on this issue? Will I have to have the
complete chain of computer firewire>flame>capy? If not, does the
chain stop at the computer or the flame if I want to run without
the Capy?
cheers,
Bill

You will need to have the Flame in order to start up Kyma.
