I am working through the morphing section of the tutorials, specifically the cross spectra sound. The manual says to type ctrl-E to expand this sound and the two times I have used this method the sound opens with variations in the structure and some modules seem to be different. after expanding this sound if I select on the right most icon and attempt to play the sound the following error message pops up:

" Error: The message # scheduled midi events starting at:until:, sent to duplicate of cross spectra, an instance of class mapper holder sound, was not understood."

the first time I attempted to expand this sound a message came up saying that it was not undoable so I stoppped what I was doing and duplicated the sound and openned the copy. the sound works fine as a duplicate until I attmept to expand it. In this second instance of expanding most of the modules in the editor are labelled as 'duplicate of cross spectra'(given the error message their is a strong degree of ambiguity about which module it may be generating the error) and the interpSpect module does not exist (it had existed the first time as the manual describes).

What is a 'mapper holder sound' and a sub sound - neither are in the prototypes description nor do they have an electronic description but this prototype exists in the sound editor.

I am using os 9.2 and v 5 of kyma.

thanks for the aid

hi Rafe,

I agree--in the time since the old Kyma tutorials were written, there have been changes to the way a Sound expands that make it somewhat less than transparent (i.e. extremely confusing). One rule of thumb is to keep expanding the MIDIMapper branches. But my advice would b to drop the old tutorials and instead read about the Spectral Analysis in the Tools chapter of the new Kyma X Revealed book. That one is up to date. (You'll find it on the Kyma X CD-ROM).

BTW to those of you who ordered a hard copy of the manual, the printer has promised to deliver the books in 2 weeks. Our apologies for the unanticipated delay--you wiill be seeing it soon! (btw. we've seen the proofs and think you will be pleased with the final result).
