I've just received my tablet and it is VERY COOL! I have a Pluck STring Synth sound that I can get to sound koto-esque using the pad. Nice!

I get occassional glitches: particularly in the Laura sound. Kyma refuses to see the tablet anymore until I stop the program and relaunch. I have the very latest drivers.

Also, why are the buttons on the tablet not implemented?!? Particularly the 'slider' - it would make an ideal ribbon controller thingy!

Thanks,

Mike

More on the glitch: Kyma will just stop recognizing the pen. I've been using it pretty heavily, but haven't really detected a pattern. Kyma just all of a sudden decides not to do anything with the pen sometimes in the middle of a sound. Eraser or tip, either way.

I have the eraser doing keyboard and the tip doing controller...

Can you try pushing down on the pen with it off the active area of the tablet and drag it onto the tablet holding it down? We think it may have something to do with dragging the pen off the active area of the tablet...

That seems to work OK - both starting the pen off the tablet and sliding in, and starting in and sliding out. Out-in-out and in-out-in also seem to work...

Any word on this yet? If I use the tablet, I have to leave and enter the application several times a session...

Please try downloading the new update to Kyma (from the Know section of the tweaky).

hello

I downloaded the 6.13 update but the problem with
the tablet continues.

I have tested many things, but I don't find a pattern.
I open the "Ahh Reverb KBD" and play with the pen just
in the low edge of the active area of the tablet.
One time after 18 minutes playing the sound hangs out,
other after 15 minutes.

One time I minimized the VCS and I played 50 minutes
whitout problems. I stopped the sound without crash.

The next time that I have done the same thing, minimizing
the VCS, I play 32 minutes, suddenly when I'm in the right edge
the pen resizes the window of Kyma, and all the
windows that I have minimized they open. Just two minutes
after the sound hangs.

And today, with the VCS minimized, the sound hangs after
20 minutes... frustrating...

I changed the Preferences/Miscellaneous of graphics and scrolling
but the problem continues...

Well, If you want some help for testing I can help. You can
send me the directions for testing.

On the positive side, after all this testing with the fantastic
Sound "Ahh Reverb KBD", I composed a song with some indian
flavour, I love the possibilities of microtonality...
To me the tablet It's more than a controller, it's an
instrument, like a violin or a piano.
Now I'm thinking to buy another pen and starting ambidexter
exercises...

Yes but I bet your performance *deserved* a hand

"One time after 18 minutes playing the sound hangs out,
other after 15 minutes." Jesus, I've been trying to replicate this but so far no luck. Have you ever tried this Sound *without* the tablet control? For example, does it go into space if you just leave it alone for 20 minutes? Or is it definitely correlated with playing off the low end of the tablet?

Eager to see your ambidextrous multi-pen performance(!)

Hi

first thing, yesterday has been a wonderful day.

The "Ahh Reverb KBD" Sound it's a hit in my band.
Now we are composing a "modern" version of a middle ages song
from spanish music, when I play this Sound the song becomes
magical and all the people "is left with the mouth open"
(is correct this expression?)
What will happen when I have two pens.... ??
Thank you very much for this Sound !

On the other hand (not hang... , if I left the Sound alone
one hour or more (up to three hours) the Sound it's OK.
The problem appear only playing with the tablet, not only in the
low end.
For example, with the "analog KBD w/PenTiltRadius & Angle" Sound when playing
a downscale exercise from rigth to left, sometimes the sound hang out when
I play the last note... just in the left side of the active area.

Today I discovered various things:
(In my Preferences wacom tablet is always in Sound mode).

A1. I open Kyma
A2. I select a Sound in the Sound Browser (i.e. "Ahh Reverb KBD")
A3. I play the Sound with the play button of the Sound Browser
A4. When I approximate the pen to the tablet the cursor arrow moves
a few centimeters!

This only occur the first time that I open Kyma and play the Sound.
If I stop the Sound and replay this doesn't happen, the cursor arrow
don't moves with the pen.

Now the "B" thing:
B1. When approximating the pen to the tablet in the upper end,
the pen controls the cursor arrow, I can move the cursor arrow
in the upper edge of the Kyma window with the pen.
B2. If I go to the upper end of the table with the pen playing, this
doesn't happen.

"a downscale exercise from rigth to left, sometimes the sound hang out when
I play the last note... just in the left side of the active area."

I think I see why this might be happening. The Ah Reverb KBD Sound has no envelope on it; the envelope comes entirely from the pressure changes on the tablet. So you could either alter your playing style to always end the phrase by slowly fading out the pressure on the tablet. OR, you could add an AR or ADSR envelope on the oscillator in that Sound so that when you lift the pen, the oscillator amplitude decays away.

Still working on the other issues you observed. We were able to replicate some of the window-moving effects under XP (OS X does not seem to have this problem). More news soon!

Meantime, congratulations for getting a jaw-dropping reaction from your band (eager to hear the new medieval song!)

For those of you who are using Win XP and experiencing "disconnects" where the Wacom pen stops working, please try the latest version of Kyma (just uploaded to tweaky). We think this might correct the problem. Please let us know. Thanks!

Hi,
Well, I just hooked up the Wacom Intuos3 and began having the tablet disconnect problems on Windows XP as described above.
I'm using the latest Wacom drivers (have tried two different versions) and Kyma 6.41.

Is there anything that seems correlated with the connection loss? (e.g. moving off the edge of the tablet? flurries of activity? lack of activity?)

I want to say that this is correlated with the pen moving off the edge of the tablet but I'm not at home with it right now. I will take note of this detail, later.
Just to clarify for the sake of completeness this is what happens:
I'm using the tablet to control an example Sound and suddenly the tablet/pen switches control to the cursor, instead, and I have to reboot to get control of the Sound back.

OK. I tried practically everything. Even the drivers on the tweaky. I disabled USB Legacy support, switched USB ports, disabled the buttons, etc., and the tablet still stops responding at arbitrary times. There doesn't seem to be any correlation to what I'm doing. I don't have to reboot the PC, though, I just have to restart Kyma.
Is anyone having problem-free performance with an Intuos3, Kyma X.41, and Windows XP SP2a?
Let me add, though, lest I come across as a persistent fault-finder, that the pen integration with Kyma is the most inspired fun I've had with a digital musical instrument in a really long time!

We *thought* we had finally tracked down and fixed this problem but sounds like there are still some circumstances that make it happen. We will try to replicate it and eradicate it once and for all (the problem, that is, not the tablet . Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks!
I've been carefully trying all the permutations.
I'll report back when I have something more.
I edited this post because I was wrong. I thought there was a constant but there's not.

How much do you have to use the pen before this problem occurs? Do you also use the tablet as your main mouse? Does the mouse function of the tablet continue to work?

The next time you get this problem, please try the following things:

1. See if putting the Wacom mouse on the tablet, using it click on a few things, and then taking it off causes the pen to resume working.

2. See if pressing downwards on the pen button (the rocker button on the side of the pen) allows you to use the pen as a mouse. Then release the button to see if the pen starts controlling the Kyma Sounds again. (This pen button temporarily switches the pen to function as the computer's mouse for as long as the button is held down.)

Hi,

I don't have to be using the pen very long before it stops working.

I tried using the tablet mouse as you suggested but it did not revive the pen.

Also, the buttons are set to control the Sound and are 'disabled' in the Wacom Tablet Properties as prescribed by the installation .pdf.

I just enabled the 1st button to switch to Mouse mode. After losing the pen function, I pressed the button and the pen switched to Mouse mode. Then I reopened a Sound and had pen control of the Sound again!

This is not repeatable, though.

As an experiment, please try changing the settings in the Wacom Tablet control panel to enable the two pen buttons: make the first (lower button) perform a click and the second (upped button) perform a double-click.

Please try this to see if the frequency of occurrence of the problem changes.

If the problem occurs, try pressing and holding the lower pen button (to control the mouse cursor), move the cursor around a bit, then release the lower pen button and see if the problem goes away.

Hi,
I tried this but it did not work. I also tried setting the Wacom Tablet Properties button assignments to Application Defined and adding Kyma as an application.
