![]() ![]() ![]() Over the last couple of months I`ve played with Symbolic Composer, AC Toolbox, Common Music and others, and I have to say that I find them all kind of academically interesting, but unmusical. What the world needs is a composition system that works with classes like motive, chord and phrase, and methods like elaborate and transpose-staying-in-key. Semirandom tones with no or random variation in lengths, volumes etc. sound purposeless. But rather than editing every single note by hand, or attempting to play a keyboard beyond my ability, I`d like to be able to shape sounds and music via higher-order rules, but still with some random variation. For example, give the system a few bars of Pachabel`s cannon, with random selection of elaborating rules and let it run. It could change the speed a bit here, add an appoggiatura there, drop a couple of notes next time, etc. according to some set of rules, or at random. Or shape it more intentionally. IP: Logged |
