Hi,

KYMA open dialogs seems to relate to only one folder - the last one opened - regardless from where you open it. Opening a analysis file from a SpectrumInRAM directly after you have opened a file from a GenericSource yields the same folder for SpectrumInRAM as for the GenericSource, even though you opened a file from a different folder in the SpectrumInRAM just before.

Is there a reason for this? Or some kind of secret trick?

No secret trick, that is just the way it was written. It is possible that we could alter that to have a different default folder for each filetype. One downside to that is that, if you had mixed filetypes in one folder, you would have to locate the folder multiple times...

I think it might be possible to use the "recent folders" drop down menu.
i don't have kyma in front of me right now, so i can't confirm this option.
if you can use this menu (which is standard in mac os x), then you can quickly switch back and forth the different folders you are using.

Hi All,
A recent folders menu in Kyma would be really handy.

I work around this by having a folder of shortcuts on my desktop, this saves a bit of time but there is still a fair bit of navigating around.
Best,
Sean

Hi,

well, a default folder for each type of prototype would be nice indeed, but also that a specific KYMA Sound remembers in which folders it's loaded external files (wav:s, MIDI:s, etc) resides, and goes directly to them when you open the specific prototype's dialog.

So, for example, if your Sound were using 'alien threat.aif' and you were to click the disk icon, it would open a dialog on the folder containing 'alien threat.aif'?

That's the way I'd like to work.

Actually in the Apple Menu (Tiger), there are only Recent Items (Applications, Documents, Servers). For the "Recent Folders" you have to switch to Finder, then "Go". I don't know if in Leopard you're able to customize this command as shortcut.

This is certainly not the way I would like it to work.

I would prefer if when you opened the selector to load a sample file it would open in the same folder that you selected last time you opened a sample file (and not the one above as happens some times now). And if you go to open a sound it will open in the same folder that it was set to, the last time I opened a sound.

What I don't want is for default folders to keep jumping back to the folder where the samples used in the prototypes were put, when I want to try out different samples from my own folder.

This would mean that every time I open a prototype and want to put my own sample in I would have to navigate all over the place.

That that is being suggested would be absolutely awful and would be far better left alone.

Well thats my vote anyway

Hi,

I agree - What I'm asking for is simply that each prototype/sound dialog have a "folder memory" of it's own, so that opening a sample from a specific folder in a GenericSource doesn't yield that I have to go from that folder next time I want to open a spectrum file from a SpectrumInRAM, thus forcing me to click my way back to the spectrum folder. It's common practice today, even though complicated modular systems - both sound and graphic based - tend to have even more optiones in their dialogs, with favorites and quick jumps.

Best

Custom keyboard shortcuts put your favorite and recent folders at your fingertips. Pop-up menus let you navigate your folders and open Finder windows.

Hi,
Just to add my 2 (Euro) cents to this one, I think the combination of Magnus' and Pete's ideas that each file button could remember where the currently selected sound came from would be great. Kyma drives me a bit mad sometimes when I'm trying out 2 types of file that are part of a sound, say a sample and a TAU, which I keep in different folders. The way Kyma seems to only remember the last folder opened makes putting different data into sounds pretty laborious sometimes.

(without wanting to hijack the discussion) Also, whilst we are on this theme, how about a button on the Script sound to open a file path and put it into the script, maybe even in the quote marks ready to use as variable? I realised recently playing with the nice TAU Recycle script you gave me it's a bit annoying to have to type the exact midi file name each time I want to try out different data.
