I am still finding frustrating roadblocks to using Kyma in 4-channel mode.

I have a Sound which uses Output4 and there doesn't seem to be a way to record all four channels to disk. It should be possible to record this into four mono tracks or into a single multi-channel file format.

I have several beautiful 4-channel Sounds which I would love to play simultaneously and mix, but the Timeline doesn't handle the Output4 correctly in a track. Your work-around for this is o.k. for one Sound, but using 4 tracks for every Sound, plus ganged controls, requires way too much work and too many tracks. Rendering the Sound to disk is the only other option, and that doesn't work.

I hope some of these issues can be addressed in some future release.

(btw - any luck with the "illegal menu combination" error?)

The only workaround I can think of for now is to drag a RecordToDisk Sound onto each branch of the Sound, just before it goes into the Output4. Give each of the RecordToDisk Sounds its own filename to write into, and play the Output4. That will give you four files, one for each output channel.

Bill,

How are you monitoring four channels? Are you using a quad mixer, a digital surround monitor? Can you specify brands?

I am using a Sony STRDE525 tuner (6 independent outputs)
2 pairs of Paradigm Atom monitors
1 Paradigm CC170 center channel (2 Atoms in one box)
1 Paradigm PDR10 powered subwoofer

(At one point, Doug Cook at Dale Pro Audio in New York +1-212-475-1124 was offering a package deal on this configuration to Kyma users. In Oct 99 it was $970).

Right now, I am only doing 4-channel, not 5.1, so I can get away with using the four submix outputs from my 24-channel Mackie board.

i am using a yamaha 01v digital console.
it hast all in all 6 independent outputs so you can do also 5.1
cool thing is that the desk has motorfaders wich also output midi, so you can also use the sliders and buttons as controlers.
i have a 5.1 monitoring setup from http://www.event1.com/Products/Products.html
and i am happy with it...
