For anyone who couldn't make it to the KISS2010 symposium, here's a 30 minute segment on "What's new in Kyma since the last symposium" for your enjoyment:

Kyma Control looks amazing! Is there any way to get it to work with Capybara? Or is it Pacarana only?

Hurrah, finally it made to the app store! I have been waiting for this since KISS2010....

But I have the same question, why Paca only? I understand that the two way VCS connection might need to be Paca only, but I imagine you are sending OSC to Kyma for the tablet, keyboards etc. So couldn't we at least intercept this in OSCulator to then send it to Kyma on Capybara hardware? Using Kyma Ext -> Pen variables for example?

If so then I will be installing this ASAP The keyboards alone would make it worthwhile!

(multi-touch) fingers crossed...

David

Kyma control is really great!
Is there any chance you can post any of those Sounds that take advantage of Kyma Control that we can see in the video so we can edit and play them?

Is there a plan to release that AU plugin as Rtas too? I'd love to use Kyma inside Protools!!!

Davide

Yes, the iPad app sends OSC, but it sends the messages directly to the Paca(rana); it doesn't send them to the Macintosh. In order to minimize latency and to make the app work for Kyma running under both Windows and Mac OS, all of the OSC is handled on the Paca(rana) directly.

This would be a question for Camille (http://www.osculator.net) since it would require changes to OSCulator in order to make the Keyboards work and to be discovered in Bonjour. (You are right in that the VCS would not be possible without the Pacarana.)

We would be happy to provide support to Camille (or to Doug at Delora) if one of them decides that there is enough interest to warrant the work it would require to make the necessary additions to their software.

I also wanted to draw your attention to something on Delora's site. Check out the pre-notice on CapyLink, an application that will work with their iPad and iPhone/iPod apps for controlling Kyma:

Ok, thanks for letting me know there is at least a possibility.

Great, I will contact Camille and see how he feels about it. Personally I would prefer to see this working through OSCulator as it would mean we users could choose how to map the keyboard outputs to Kyma messages.

Anyone else interested in seeing Kyma control work with older hardware?

David

In fact you can already use the keyboard and pen controls any way you like in Kyma. You could, for example, use (!KeyNumber / 128) as a (0,1) amplitude controller. The names are arbitrary; it is the parameter field and the way in which you use the controller that determines what it controls.

Also, for example, the pen controls can be remapped directly in the VCS by simply right-clicking on the widget in the VCS.

As a Capybara user, I would love to be able to take advantage of KymaControl's capabilities via CapyLink and/or OSCulator. Any idea how many Capybara users are still out there?

Thank you for the Sounds. Really like the iPad app, playing with kyma feels much more natural.

A wish: could be useful an option to see the name/number of the pen tracked on top of the colored dot

thanks

Each pen number has a unique color. Could you use the color to identify which pen it is? (We are afraid the numbers would be obscured by your finger if they were printed on the circle).

Ahh, another reason to give Apple more of my money. A darn good reason, too :-)

Looking forward to the AU plugs a lot. Saves I/O for connecting the Paca. Very, very cool.

I know that colors change with pen numbers (actually is really cool), but sometime I ask myself "is pink the third or the fourth pen?"; maybe I need to work a little more and get used with the colors.
I see it like this: the number floats above the colored circle, so it's not covered by the finger, and maybe it could slowly move around the circle when closer to the edge of the screen.

Just an option that sometime could be helpful, but I'm really happy with it right now!

I'm waiting too for the au plug, one thing less to carry around if I need to work with Kyma away from my studio!

Will there be PacaVST as well for Windows environments?

With PacaAU, how many of those AU instances can be loaded? One or many? I mean: can I use this sound on track 1, this other sound on track 2, etc.? Or can I only use 1 sound through 1 AU instance. If yes, is it multichannel?

These are not really questions, just me getting into update fevah mode.

MMM Will there be sample-rates beyond 64k? (AU Pacaz)

Is everyone flush so buying iPads is no problem?!?

how about an android port of KymaControl, you can get these for very cheap.- however I am sure there is a reason they are cheap :-(

However for a 'one purpose purchase' (Kyma Control), is a little more in my range considering I am still paying off the import duty from my Pacarana ;-p
(obviously I think her Majesty should waive duty on all SS products)

Any hints if I should be checking KymaUpdate Page on a monthly/weekly/daily or indeed hourly basis? (I know, I am a dumb-ass)

All the best.

Charlie

I'm not sure why you ask this --- my Pacarana is running at 192khz most of the time. AFAIK the Paca(rana) will eat any sample rate that the audio interface it uses provides. In the case of an AU-connect I'd presume that the clocking will come from the DAW and that the Paca(rana) will thus eat any sample rate that the DAW supports.

Or am I mistaken in this assumption?

Ahh sorry, at the moment, I am running Capy as IO, which is limited to 64k (48) over the firewirelf/flame

So yes, I am hoping the AU implementation will support all the high sample rates.
(which as Dennis points out hopefully will be the case)
