But Kyma has a really cool Vocoder inside! I find the neatest thing being the ability to scale the carrier and modulation filter bank frequencies separately from each other. This allows, among other things, a pad to have its lower harmonics modulated by a drum loop while leaving the higher harmonics largely unaffected. (or vice verse, I suppose...) I think this must be how Tangerine Dream did a lot of their stuff. Here all along I thought they did it all with sequencers -- what a royal chore! Using a drum loop to modulate interesting carriers in these frequency scaled ways does pretty much the same thing only a whole lot easier! Cheers, - DM IP: Logged | |

... oh yes!... Be sure to play with the compressor settings on the carrier and modulation sources. I found the default compressions (4:1) too much for my pre-recorded drum loop. And for some reason I needed about 12 dB boost on the carrier even when no compression is used. ...one more thing, You might want to set the modulation source to be a mono mix on both input channels (maybe you don't), but definitely, the stereo vocoder is a much nicer sound on the modulated carrier! - DM [This message has been edited by David McClain (edited 24 March 2001).] [This message has been edited by David McClain (edited 24 March 2001).] IP: Logged |
