I have a problem that after an indefinite time Kyma hangs. This may be 10 minutes after launching it or after more than half an hour. It is unrelated to what I'm doing; it also happens if I'm not doing anything and have the program just run. Since I'm new to Kyma, I'm just working my way through the Kyma X book and trying out simple patches, so if I'm doing something it is nothing complicated or spectacular. The only thing I can think of that could give trouble is the Firewire connection; because the green led on the Flame interface is off when Kyma hangs (although on second thought, it would if Kyma hangs ). The Capybara keeps functioning, I was able to play a MIDI-controlled sound even after the FW connection was gone.

I'm running Kyma 6.22 on Windows XP with SP 2. My PC is a 3 GHz dual-core Pentium IV with 1 GB of RAM. I did run the Firewire patch and made sure the settings for SidSpeed in the registry are correct. My Capybara is the basic model. I disconnected a Motu 828 that I had connected to the PC, so the Capabara is the only thing connected through Firewire. This did not resolve the problem.

When you say that Kyma hangs, what exactly happens? Does the mouse stop moving, or does Kyma stop responding? Does Kyma give you an error message?

(The green light could turn off because Kyma does not have any information to send to the Capybara, or Kyma gets hung up, so it does not necessaily mean that there is a FireWire problem.)

Kyma stops responding, but there is no error message nor is there excessive CPU activity. I can still move the mouse and click on things but nothing happens. I can move windows in the interface, but they don't get redrawn. I have to kill the program to close it, but I can relaunch it without rebooting the PC.

Of course, tonight, after I wrote about this, Kyma worked fine for more than one and an half hours and I could close the program normally.

Job, If this happens again, could you please try minimizing the main Kyma window to see whether there might be an open dialog hidden behind it? (for example, an open File dialog) What you describe sounds like this might be the cause. (It does not sound like a hardware problem).

I started Kyma yesterday night and just let it run. I checked in Task Manager and saw that the memory usage was about 100 MB. This afternoon Kyma had become unresponsive, but I was able to minimize the main window. However, I didn't see any error messages displayed. One thing I noticed was that the memory usage had gone down to 1 MB. What is strange (or maybe not) is that Kyma is not completely unresponsive, in that I can resize and minimize the main window and any subwindows, but I can not close them. I can also bring up the main taskbar menus, but I can not select anything.

I am going to arrange my studio over the next couple of days. After that I want connect the Capybara to another PC and see if the same thing happens.
