Hi Kyma

I am working on a theater play and I want to create a sound effect for a scene where a wounded soldier begs for water and we start to hear a first fly buzzing and the like hundreds of them invade the stage ...

Can you give some clues to synthesize an effect like this?

Many thanks

Luis Aly

If you would like the voice of the soldier to change into the buzzing, one possibility is to analyze it using TAU. Open the Gallery and the Sound called:

"Looping time frequency formant adjust of <yourFileNameHere>"

If you slow down the rate almost to zero, vowels turn into an insect-like buzzing sound so you might be able to use this technique for at least one layer of your effect.

Here's another idea that you might be able to use as a starting point. It's a MultiSampleCloud with ZZ phonemes as the samples. That is fed into a Replicator to get 4 copies spread across the stereo field. You could try this out on your samples of insects or recording of yourself making a buzzing sound. The more copies you make in the Replicator (and the higher the Density control) the more insects. I think it would sound much better with your samples in it instead of people saying ZZ but just to give an idea of generating a swarm out of small elements...
