Hi, I'm new to Kyma and want to route a simple oscillator into the frequency field of the standard filter module. I know that removing the "L" works fine when feeding into an oscillator but it doesn't work in the frequency field in a filter. Why not? When L is explained in the manual it only refers to it as the left input of a sound - quite confusing, since removing the "L" results in audio rate modulation in the oscillator.

It's probably a simple overlook or misunderstanding from my side, however, I've can't find any information on the forum or the tweaky. I'm a big fan of audio rate control so here's hoping there isn't any unnecessary blocks!

Hello.

I tried using the standard filter, it kind of works, but then as you say when you remove the L, it stops working.

However I tried the same setup using the VCF module rather than the filter.

It works! I have attached my attempt here, see if it is what you are after.

Welcome to the Kyma fun!

Now we're talking! THIS is Kyma fun, thank you very much! I replaced the noise with a saw fixed to 50 hz. The fun starts when you modulate at multiples, finding harmonics, the beating is beautiful (to my ears, that is!)

Then it's straight to distortion/delay/reverb and we're in drone heaven.

I remember now there was some forum requests for a standard synth filter - I guess this was SSC's answer. But it seems not every prototype parameter accepts audio rate input - which of course makes sense in many parameter fields anyway.

Again, thanks - really helpful.

This goes straight to my sound library!

Hi Geirmundsimonsen

By default hot param (blue) fields do not accept signals at sample rate. For many years the only exception to the rule was the level field in the oscillator module. It was like two fields in one. If you put in a formula it was a hot field, but if you pasted a module and removed the L (with no formula) it invisibly turned into a input module type field. Now some of the VCF Modules fields are also exceptions to the rule, but I believe that these are the only hot fields in the whole of Kyma that work this way.

Here's a list of parameter fields where you can paste a Sound and remove the 'L' to have it run at the full audio sample rate:

Oscillator: Envelope
ModalFilter: Envelope
Level: Left, Right
TriggeredSampleAndHold: Trigger
VCF : Amplitude, Resonance

Remove 'L' if you want it to be read at sample rate.

That's great for reference. Great to know what works, and how. Thanks a lot!

OOOh
Didn't know about TriggeredSampleAndHold: Trigger.

I can get by in some sounds having to use without Petes DSP S&H and hence can use Paca.

thanks
