While we await the unveiling of "Project X", I would like to offer this Sound. It takes a sample and slices it in eight pieces and randomly rearranges them. You can use Reset to randomly change the order. You can also change the pitch, amplitude, panning of each slice or choose to play it backwards. I've only worked with drum loops so far but other types of samples might be interesting. Have fun!

PS- I was going to include the orignal file used for the presets but it excedes the upload limit.

Hi John

Thanks for the great sound file. I've seen other plugins that do something similar but not as comprehensive as this. I tried it on the "drum and bass 110" sample file from the kyma library and I like the way you can change the bpm to 165 to get triplets.
I hope you don't mind but I've made a couple of adjustments.
First I've made the first segment always be the first segment (not random). This way hitting the reset seems to keep the bar at the same place and makes the controls stay in order. Then I've added a beats per bar control just by limiting the max number of segments played back. This way you can get 5/4 and 7/8 tempos.

thanks for ths sound

Pete

Hi Pete,

I like your alteration. No doubt you've tried non-rhythmic samples too!

Another idea is a Sound that automatically finds the transist points and uses that as an index to file segments. Then scramble that. Recycle on the fly.

I think that finding the points is not any problem, its storing the index values to these points for re-use....

Yikes,

I messed around with that for a while but could never win.

Anybody make any progress with this?

I guess a threshold detector is the easy part, but yeah, how to store those points?

Maybe you could use this Sound as a starting point? It uses an AmplitudeFollower and a MemoryWriter to capture only those parts of the sample that exceed a threshold, and it plays back those "beats" (or subparts of beats) at whatever BPM you choose. The segment points are stored using a separate MemoryWriter.

i am getting errors in the script prototype regarding the rust drum sample.. i know that that sample resides in our kyma folders, but how do i get the sound to recognize it.

also, one of the sample prototypes has "?sample" written in green as the sample source.. is this normal?

sorry for the newbie questions...

Sorry, I accidentally relied on something that hasn't made it into the release yet. Please hold onto this Sound so you can use it when Kyma X comes out. My apologies! (it was not an intentional teaser)

Hi Taylor

I've just posted some New DSP modules in the Kyma Sound Excange that might help with the problem of storing the index points. It has a track and hold module that can be triggered by a sound. one way might be to use a quantity of these . Or the step writer with the Up Down Counter feeding the index and both being fed by a Gate to trigger module to make it move one step at a time , would alow you to store single values into samples ram at will.

hope it helps

Pete
