I am running my capy 320 with 6 processors, on a g4 867 , os9 &kyma X. i wanted to create an analysis file of a sample and plug it into the GA analyses from spectrum, however each time i attempt to 'set the quasi - harmonic parameters' kyma tells me i have exceeded the limits of real time computation at o.o seconds.

kyma allows me to finish the analyses without being able to moniter the sound. So I 'blindly' set an arbitrary level for the inharmonic content and saved the outcome. i do have a quasi harmonic file that is saved from this sample but when i attempt to plug it in to the GA analyses kyma crashes. The mac window that pops up tells me I have a type 2 error but the mac doesn't lock up nor did any other software crash. I recreated the scenario with just kyma running and it crashed a second time. i have also since used a smaller sample that did not exceeded the real time capabilities and did not crash so far (i haven't plugged it in to the GA synthesis tool yet).

the sample is a stereo aiff, 780 ms, @ 24 bit 88.2. it is a sample of complex fm synthesis filtered with moving formants so their is a lot of info to analyze. is the crash due to a data bottleneck or is it more likely that i have an installation problem? BTW kyma X did not remembering the preference settings - i had selected "no help warnings".

suggestions for trying to analyze large samples and being able to keep the detail would be appreciated.

thanks rafe

I'm wondering whether the problem might be the sample rate rather than anything to do with the installation. Could you please try doing the quasi harmonic analysis of a sample recorded at 44.1 kHz just to check that you can do the spectral analysis + GA analysis? That would tell us whether it is SR related or not.

Thanks!

The second sample that I tried was a 16bit 44.1 sample but as I mentioned I haven't completed the entire proccess. I'll go through it again and post the results.

thanks so much.

So I have done as you requested, I converted the file to a mono 16 b 44.1 aiff and did the analyses and ended up with two files, one with morph info and one without. All this seems fine and it worked fine with the morph example but I did have one snag. When i attempted to open the file from the GA tool it didn't recognize the analyses files as such (a spectrum file). In my browser none of the files seem to have the proper extentions.

So I redid the analyses file. i will admit I have been distracted (phone calls etc) during the process but i now have several 'Sound files' from the three different analyses attempts but only the final attempt saved as spectrum files. Have I missed something obvious during the process as all the others are 'Sound Files'

How do I manage to create spectrum files from my audio files that are 24 bit 88.2 as this is my preferred sample rate? do you have a work around suggestion?

thanks rafe
