Attached is a sound that produces a keyboard controlled oscillator with a complex, time evolving, spectrum. I thought about this for a while and finally decided on a vocoder as the central element. It sort of imposes the spectrum of the sidechain on the input. My sidechain here is an envelope controlled crossfade between Kurt counting, and Sammy rapping. The input is a mix of four pulse generators (very broad frequency coverage) with frequency ratios 1, 1/2, 1/3, and 1/5, with independently controllable amplitudes. Finally, the output of the vocoder is sent through an amplitude envelope control and then into a stereo choruser to fatten up the sound and make it more surround. The sound is very "lonely night" in the default configuration, and it reminds me a bit of Pat Matheny (sp?). Enjoy! - DM IP: Logged | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ... I must say, exchanging Sammy's rap for Carla's "Electron" makes for a much more interesting sound. There is far more contrast between Carla's spectrum and Kurt's, than between Kurt's and Sammy's. Also... adding a simple low-shelving EQ with cutoff around 500 Hz and about 10 dB boost significantly helps with the thinness of the sound. Not sure why it sounds like in a muted tube.. must be something about Vocoding that causes this. - DM [This message has been edited by David McClain (edited 15 July 2002).] IP: Logged |
