so i have been think about delays and what makes some of the old digital and analog ones so much fun.

i want to create a delay which every interation is downsampled from the interation prior. the closest i got was using an amplitude follower on the output of the delay and map that to a sample and
hold which the delay ran into. as the delay fades away the sample rate decrease and the sound gets crunched. however this not really the same as a downsampling each interation and fails to account for softer or variable input signals.

could a script produce this result? or am a missing an easier solution (i feel like i am)?

tia.

Hi Keph
When you say down sample do you mean reduce the sample rate (no of samples per sec) or reduce the sample resolution (no of bits that make up one sample).
To achieve the latter, simple put the signal through an attenuator and then through a gain module making sure that the reduction matches the gain.
If you mean sample rate and are trying to achieve the sound you got with the old tape loop machine when you switch off the motor and hear it gradualy slow down and stop, you might get better results buy using a memory writer and a sample player combination as aposed to a delay module.with this combination you can make the playback rate slow down to zero . You could stop the writer writing to stop it from lapping the sample player.

To achive the same thing with a delay module you would need to have infinate memory as the delay would have to get larger and larger all the time you where in stopped mode.

Does this make sence ?
