SieveAnalysisAndConstruction_DimitrisExarchosDanielJones.pdf.zip

Hello all,

a colleague of mine was working on an implementation of Xenakis' Sieve Theory in SuperCollider.

I wondered about how to implement the basics in Kyma?

Here is a research paper by Dimitris Exarchos and Daniel Jones of Goldsmiths, about Xenakis' use of Sieve Theory and on their analysis and construction in Max/MSP.

Well this chap has taken it all to a very thorough level.

Unfortunately I am not a computer scientist, so I can't even begin to work with his software. But I like alot of the implementations in there. Pretty much covers all the bases, especially the Xenakis Sieve ParameterObjects.

Maybe some of you are more code oriented than I am, and can get into AthenaCL.

I won't let such a thorough piece of formal work intimidate my own composer's research. I think its quite valid to get what you can out of theory or algorithms.

In the end, as far as music is concerned, you don't need to understand all the theory - in fact, in music, sometimes you don't need rules at all!
