Thanks for that.
I feel guilty for not having heard of him before, yet somewhat enlightened for having so.

It seems the whole electronic genre forgot to mention him - for example, kraftwerk are nearly always mentioned as inspiration for the house music genre but I can't recall the name Raymond Scott mentioned.

I listen to this:

and wonder if Kraftwerk were influenced... (Actually perhaps even their styling too?!? Hair/Tie & Suits)

Any more gems like this? ;-)

There is also a wonderful documentary, by his son, titled 'Deconstructing Dad -- The Music, Machines, and Mystery of Raymond Scott'. Available from http://scottdoc.com/dvd/

cheers,
Bill

I thought the "Soothing Sounds for Babies" series has had a comeback with electronic musicians and hipsters generally. But maybe not everyone knows it:

Would love to hear from somebody who actually listened to this as a baby...

At KISS2010, Peter Rantasa demonstrated that what really soothes a baby is a very different kind of sound, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KKkXWWSe7k

It's not only babies which like them...

Well that goes someway to explain increasing global CO2 emissions; it's all these young parents and football players trying to sleep at night. I hope this issue was raised at the recent Cancun climate conference.

A big part of the reason he remained virtually unknown in the EM field was his preoccupation with secrecy. Everyone that visited his amazing studio was required to sign a legally binding confidentiality agreement.
