Author | Topic: Can a Sound "discover" its duration? |
Douglas Kraul Member |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'd like to make some aspects of a Sound depend on its duration (length on the TimeLine). For example I might want to run through a FunctionGenerator's table exactly once. Is there a way to do this? Thanks! Doug IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() There is no way to do this now, but we may be able to add a green ?variable that could supply the duration of each Sound in the time line. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I think a "green variable" would handle most if not all of the cases. I use a similar technique with scripted Sounds (insert ?duration as needed) and this works well as the variable is properly bound when I send the selector "duration" to a Sound being instantiated in the script. What might work well, allowing the same Sound to work in or out of the TimeLine, would be to change the behavior of the SetDuration object so that the value placed in its Duration field is passed to its input sound as ?duration. That way you could have the Sound in your library with a default duration so it plays meanigfully standalone (without prompting for ?duration). When you drag it to the Timeline the SetDuration gets stripped anyway and the starting length is what the duration was set in the SetDuration. That would be pretty slick I think! Doug IP: Logged |
