Over the last few weeks I get frequently the error message:
The Paca is not responding. Unhandeled Firewire bus reste or a Firewire error (22). I first though the problem was the new Kyma version but even after reverting back to the older version the problem persists. Any thoughts?

I had the same issue. I know how frustrating it is. For me it ended up being a bad firewire cable (the one shipped with my system) which took me forever to check since I thought it highly unlikely.

I would definitely start with a new cable to rule out that possibility. If it's possible to use a shorter cable that is also helpful since firewire cables are limited and the longer they are the more subject to possible issues.

You can try moving to a different firewire port or changing the configuration for example chaining you audio interface off the paca(rana)'s port or not. Also remove ALL other firewire devices to remove possibility of a conflict.

I'll leave any other advise to SSC. I know they can capture a debug log to get more information.

Sorry slightly off-topic, but what is the maximum length of FW cable going from Pacarana to Host Computer? Just because I'm going to be running a different cable so I can sometimes house the host computer in my recording booth instead of control room, so will need to purchase a longer cable. Didn't realise it might be an issue until I saw this post.

15' but apparently that can be increased with repeaters. Not sure how that works in practice.

I have swapped the cable with a new one but error still comes up. I'll see if I can find another Firewire card to try out. Any other thoughts anyone?

Maybe better if SSC responds. Are they off somewhere? Not many responses on the board lately.

Try connecting the audio interface and paca(rana) to the same firewire card directly. Also try chaining PC->paca(rana)->audio interface.

If the audio interface is bus powered, make sure it's using a wall wart power supply instead of feeding just off the bus.

Are you syncing digital audio from the dedicated interface used by the paca(rana) to your computers audio interface? If so I've had the problem were a program on the computer like a DAW might change the sample rate on the computers interface causing the two to lose sync. Sometimes that also seems to cause issues with the communication.

Probably the best thing is to call SSC so they can help you capture debug info.

bar|none has made several great suggestions for things to try. Plus his suggestion to contact us by email is excellent! That way, we can get specific details on your computer and the rest of your setup and help you get your Pacarana working nice and smoothly as intended!

Thanks!
