I'm having some troubles with my Pacarana stuttering. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for it... sometimes it happens when playing a Sound, other times when doing something as simple as auditioning an audio file from the Spectral Analysis "Select" window.

Some things have recently changed in the studio - I rearranged and put the Pacarana in my rack (with empty space above it and a vented panel - still seems to get hot, though). Can this be an issue? Is it a coincidence that Kyma tells me that my firmware is newer than the Kyma software, even though I have the newest version installed? Is it a coincidence that I changed output routing at the beginning of the session? Or that Kyma tells me that it is disconnected from the host - when it isn't?

Can my firewire cable be bad, maybe?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The most likely culprit is a bad FireWire cable. Do you have another (or others) you could swap in to test that?

Thanks!

I don't have another on hand, but I'll see if I can find one locally (small town) and try it. That would make sense, since it never happened before doing that gig in Kansas City last month - where the cables may have been man-handled a bit. The more I thought about this last night, the more I thought "cant' be from overheating" since it happens even when the Pacarana has only been powered up for a short time.

Wait, do you mean the firewire 800 running from the Pacarana to the computer, or the firewire cable running from to the Capy (my interface)?

I haven't tried a new cable yet, but things are much better today... I crawled behind the racks and reseated the Firewire 800 cable going from the iMac to the Pacarana. I reversed the cable since, for some reason the plugs seemed to fit more snugly the other way around.

I also re-installed the latest version of Kyma. Oddly enough, though it has been telling me that my Pacarana's firmware was newer than my version of Kyma (which was said to be the latest when using the updater), it now no longer tells me that. I suspect that I may have missed a version with the same version number on this computer, but probably updated the firmware when I installed Kyma on my MacBook Pro at the end of July.

In any event, there are no now stutters. Everything seems to be behaving as I'd expect - though I think I may have accidentally pulled the MIDI cable from the Capybara when I was behind the racks. Once more into the breach!
