hello ssc

is it possible to direct kyma to load on the machine that the capy is plugged into and access it over either a LAN or remote network. My first attempt in this area resulted in kyma wanting to load on the terminal i was working on rather than the computer the capy was plugged into.

in the short term i was hoping to be able to access kyma and the library from the internet and buss a stereo return signal for monitoring to the machine i am physically on. i realize the latency will likely make this impractical for many duties but i was looking for another way to be able to get more work done without having to pack the capy around.

thanks

One quirky way to do this might be to use iChat (you will need two .mac or AIM logins to try this). If you are using a Mac and the AV/C audio firmware for the Flame, you can set up an effects-send over the Internet:

• In iChat, set both the microphone and headphone to Capybara IO
• Play this Sound
• Connect from one computer to the other via audio or video chat. (Does anyone know if there is a way to set iChat to auto answer a call if you are not in front of the computer?)
• You should be able to process your input from the remote location

Maybe you could use Remote Desktop both to answer your iChat call and to remote-control Kyma to design, load, and play new Sounds remotely.

thanks ssc

i will look into the remote desktop in more detail but i was having a little difficulty with remote desktop in my lan test. its not a feature i use, being a novice with the feature, likely i haven't worked the details out correctly. thanks

i don't know if Kyma can run under X11 - but if it did, you could log in remotely onto your computer and redirect it's X window output onto your remote machine using something like ssh -l <your-user-name> -X <your-remote-IP-address>

then if you started Kyma, it's windows would appear on your remote machine. Redirecting it's audio would be another matter! But theoretically also possible via port redirection

maybe there's a utility for re-directing Quartz (Assuming Kyma is using this) to an X-window protocol?
