![]() ![]() ![]() When I expand the DRAM memory of my G3 from 128 Mb (2 DIMM's) to 640 Mb (+2 x256 Mb) Kyma .5 does not work anymore. The Kyma windows stay blank and Kyma does not react to any of the commands. The rest of the Mac system remains functional though. And when I put in only one dimm (total = 384 Mb), Kyma seems to function normally. Has anybody had similar problems? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, the Macintosh version of Smalltalk that we are currently using prevents Kyma from starting up properly when the Macintosh has more that 512 megabytes of memory. There is a workaround. If you first start another program that uses up enough memory so that the remaining available memory (check this using "About this computer" in the Apple menu) is less than 512 megabytes, then Kyma will start properly. You can then quit that first program, and leave Kyma running. For example, if you are using ProTools or an audio sequencer, start that program first and then start Kyma. If you aren't using another large program at the same time as Kyma, you can create a "fake" large program as follows. Make a copy of SimpleText, and set its Preferred memory use to the amount of RAM you have minus 512 megabytes. This can be set by selecting the copy of SimpleText, choosing Get info from the File menu, choosing Memory from the pop up menu at the top, and then entering the number. For your case of 640 megabytes, you need to set it to 640-512 or 128 megabytes, so you would enter 128000 into the Preferred field in the Get info window. We are working on a fix to this problem, but in the meantime, this workaround should do the trick. [This message has been edited by SSC (edited 08 October 2000).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I had already given Kyma the 200 Mb Preferred Memory Size it deserves. Now I know why this did the trick. Thanks very much, David. IP: Logged |
