is there a rule of thumb for sample lengthes / cpu use while morphing in the tau editor?

for example i have two mono samples (24 bit 44.1) around .79 seconds in length that i would like to morph and work on in realtime in the tau editor but i keep having the dreaded out of realtime message. this is on an 8 processor machine. the samples i am using are percussive samples in nature.

the message error message shows that 14 processors are needed!

the other frustration is that if i shorten the samples to a single beat or less then i get a cpu spike and the capy initializes itself.

alternatively could any other users articulate their experience in terms of # of processors, sample lengthes and complexities of the content and perfomance with their machines? obviously i am trying to sort out a strategy for successfull morphing.

thanks rafe

I suspect that the problem may lie in an estimated fundamental that is too high(?) Your durations are certainly within reason. What did you enter as the high and low extremes expected for the fundamental frequency?

hello ssc

thanks for that response. i have changed the frequency parameters in the evaluation and still this sound won't play. i will post a copy of the sound. unfortunately my copy of stuffit is on my other machine which is not here at the moment so i will post a copy of the sound asap.

fyi - after i changed the freq component in the tau editor and reevaluated i received the error message can't divide by zero when i attempted to record the morph output of that sound.

thanks
