Hello. 1) does anybody use the Akai LPD8 with Kyma? I can map the 8 potentiometers with the "learning" function, but can't configure the 8 pads to trigger samples, instead; or: 2) any alternative to the Akai LPD8 (I mean: a midi controller with pads surface) your past experience could say that surely fits to Kyma? Hi, I've got some other question a bit more large maybe, but about the same machine: The LPD8 (or all midi controlers with USB connectics). I'm a absolutly a new kyma user. I found some way to configure olf controller like Motor mix of BCF2000 but nothing about how to configure classic USB midi controler as Lpd8, nano pad, or any other keyboards, pads, and controller... Is they are any tutorial or topics, or documentation about that? I've tried to plug it on the Pacarana, then to find it in "Midi in/out" of the DSP Statut panel but nothing is appeared... If any of you have a idea or documentation suggestion. Thanks. IP: Logged |

http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Learn/SupportedConverters In the above list are the devices that are directly supported with the paca/rana. If your device is not supported then odds are the paca/rana will not recognize it directly. This means you can use it but it will need to be plugged into your host computer and then you will need to route the device via your DAW or other software (ie core midi) to kyma. In this configuration your audio interface that is dedicated to the paca will need to have midi support and you will need to have physical midi cables to the interface from your host computer ( a more traditional midi device setup). SSC has integrated a number of devices directly into the kyma software but when a device is integrated that way the host computer cannot access it. (at least this is the case for audio interfaces as you have no doubt figure out- I think it is the same for the midi devices but I could be dead wrong about that because I dont set up my controllers that way for use in kyma.) Hope that helps! Rafe IP: Logged |

Hello again There is an alternative to the traditional midi setup in that you can bus midi and other control data via the ethernet port of the paca/rana as SSC has midi /osc functionality as part of Kyma. You need to use the network port of the paca and you can create a LAN in your studio for wireless functionality too. If you go this route make sure you connect your ethernet cable to the correct port on the rear of the paca/rana as there are 3 ethernet ports but two are dedicated for syncing multiple paca's together. I've done it Delora's Kyma connect is one software (Mac only) that is excellent for this and Douglas Kraul (sp?) offers great support too. You can do a search here and to read many posts regarding that software on this forum. If you are looking at alternative contollers Camille Troilard's Osculator is another excellent piece of software for using specific bluetooth compliant controllers. It runs without additional cabling. I can't remember if Osculator can route midi from hardware controllers but it runs on both PC/Mac As mentioned both gentlemen offer excellent support and each software is very reasonably priced for the functionality. rafe [This message has been edited by rafe (edited 28 July 2014).] IP: Logged |

quote: Any class-compliant USB MIDI controller (i.e., one that does not require a driver on the host computer) should show up when you plug it into the USB port on the back of the Paca(rana). In the DSP Status Control, where it says "Running" you may have to select "Rescan" after hot-plugging a new USB device before it shows up in the MIDI input and MIDI output list. Mapping will depend on which controller you are using and what it outputs for each of the pads. For example, you could try selecting the contents of the Gate parameter field of a Sample, then press the esc key on your computer keyboard (to put Kyma into Learn mode); then press one of the pads. Or you could go to the DSP menu, Configure MIDI and press Show MIDI Messages to see what Kyma is receiving from each pad on the MIDI controller. Hope that's helpful. Please let us know your results!
