Hi,
well Im overjoyed to say Ive finally installed the update and have Kyma X running on my laptop with the firwire interface, hurrah.

Ok, not so huurah is the crazy CPU activity Im getting. When KymaX is up and running but doing nothing ie, no sounds or anything loaded, just its default state when its first executed, CPU usage is about 50%, I press the memory recyle button in Kyma and it drops to about 2%. Any mouse movement, no clicking objects or anything, just moving the mouse pointer around the screen shoots CPU usage up to 50% again. On average when I first execute Kyma, CPU usage is 50% but sometimes around 25%. The CPU usage differs depending on what Sound I have loaded afterwards.

For me this is quite unacceptble, if cpu usage stayed constant it wouldnt be so bad, but I want to run a sequencer with audio, plugins etc at the same time, but this will be impossible if Kyma is gobbling up resources. I wouldnt expect what is essentially a graphic front end to be so heavy, the old version ran fine on my desktop 966 Mhz Pentium3, and my laptop leaves that thing in the dust, or should

My setup is
Toshiba Satellite Notebook
Pentium 4m 2Ghz processor
512 Mb Ram
Nvidia GeForce 460 Go Graphics chip
Firewire chipset is Texas Instruments

Thanks for any help you could offer,

Matt

Generally, Kyma is not greedy with CPU cycles -- it will take them if they are available, but should relinquish them if some other task has a use for them.

To reduce the CPU usage more, close the DSP Status window if you do not need to refer to it. The DSP Status window keeps Kyma from idling.

Also, we will update Kyma X to reduce the processor usage when Kyma is idle. We'll let everyone know by email when it's available.

Have to admit, I hadnt run it alongside any other software at this time.
Thanks for setting me straight, and for the new software update.

Cheers,

Matt
