Hi!
I wanted to update the flame, but I had no success. When I tried to open the updater in the Mac OSX- folder, I got the message "Could not open file. Unknown error (-10810)". Trying with the updater in the other folder (Firmware Update 050624), I can launch the programm, but get this message:

"Kyma FireWire Interface Software Updater

Looking for flash image at: Macintosh HD: ins PB:FirmwareUpdate050624 Folder.1:Firmware Update 050624:Flame Update 050624:Flame Update.app:fwimage.bin

Opened fwimage.bin.

Updating to Firewire software version 050113, address 00F00000, 47524 bytes

Locating Kyma FireWire Interface...found.
Reading flash directory...Could not read boot block."

I tried to download the update package a second time, with the same result.
I´m using a G4- PB, Mac OS X.3.4.
Any idea?

Because you were a beta tester of Kyma X, you had an early version of the Flame firmware. Please first update the firmware using the updater on the Kyma X CD-ROM, then you should be able to use the updater found online.

Hi

I got the same error message, but I'm a pc user and finding a macintosh machine is hard. So I want to know how urgent the firmware update is. What are the benefits for updating it? And what are the bad things that can happen if I don't update it?

Thanks in advance,
Hitoshi

The update gives you more simultaneous disk tracks. Also, the new firmware makes it possible for future updates to be done from a PC.

So it's not urgent but next time a friend of yours happens to visit with a PowerBook, maybe they would do you the favor. Once you use a Mac to do the first update of the FireWire firmware (using the updater on the Kyma X CD-ROM) you will be able to do all future updates from your PC.
