Those in the Bay Area may be interested in a Meetup being organized by Noah Thorp (http://electronicmusic.meetup.com/152/calendar/6632332/)
When: Thursday, November 8, 2007, 7:30 PM
Where: CNMAT (UC Berkeley) / 1750 Arch Street / Berkeley , CA 94709
Description: Bay Area Computer Music Technology Meetup

Brian Belet will show how he uses Kyma as a performance environment for live interactive computer music. Belet will perform one of his compositions and then discuss the algorithms used.

Also on the program: Steven Yi (Blue), Michael Zbyszynski (Max/MSP libraries & Wacom tablets), David Wessel (new controllers) & impromptu presentations by other attendees (bring your setup with you if you'd like to make a presentation).

Looking for somebody to improv with at CNMAT Thursday, if that proves to be a practical thing to do. I've done lots of experimental vocal work and would enjoy singing live with anybody on Kyma who might be game for that. I can't record a vocal sample tonight in my apartment, but will do so in the morning and then post an mp3 link here.

I'll also be bringing my first Kyma piece, a 2.5 minute octo spatialization of a mixdown done in Cubase (no groans, please, I'm still in kindergarten with Kyma). I'll bring my Capy with me, and hopefully will be able to hook it into the CNMAT audio setup, if there's time to present it.

The piece is based on a remix of files by Cheryl Leonard, who makes most of her sounds using natural objects. Also in the mix are Matt Ingalls on clarinet and my voice. The three of us were classmates at Mills a dozen years ago.

All the best, Will Grant

Links for vocal sample mp3s, 320 & 128:
http://www.greyotter.com/z-mp3s/KymaDawn.mp3 http://www.greyotter.com/z-mp3s/KymaDawn128.mp3

This is an example in hopes of attracting a collaborator for Thursday. The voice has zero effects added, and the separate source files haven't been spatialized in Kyma yet. But the final piece will be generally similar to this. And as mentioned before, I'd love to improv voice with somebody else on Kyma as a presentation for the meetup.
