Ok, I spotted the update, I am in and up! I have configured the BCF with relevant midi cables! It WORKS! I am especially lovin the dedicated roll of the dice button.

Now... My only issue is that I had to not use it on USB anymore and plug it directly to the Capy. This obviously takes up my midi input on the capy. I assume I have to find or wire some sort of midi merge to be able to send midi to the capy from other keyboards or sequencer?
Does the kyma midi still work when BCF mode is on? (IE worth wiring up dedicated midi Y input cable?!?
:-) Splendid work on the update, sure there is more to check out yet.. It arrived just as I finished rebuilding my studio! Hurrah!
Many thanks Charlie

Yes, Kyma MIDI is still working when a BCF is used, so some sort of MIDI merge box would be the way to go. (The BCF does not seem to have merge built in )

Don't do that!!! MIDI is a current loop.

Find a dedicated MIDI merge box.

Ahhh Yes silly me, I had recalled a situation where I used a split midi cable, not a merge,....
I return after discussing this problem with a friend. He suggested I was crazy wanting to buy a midi merge and that he would be able to get it to work within Logic Audio. After a bit of experimentation, between us we have created simple solution to patch the midi in/outs together on the 'clicks and ports layer' on the midi environment. It works splendidly! Hurrah for my mate matt. If people would like said logic environment, give us a nod and I will tidy up and upload.

Charlie

Does this mean that USB doen not work with the BCF?

I have not been able to get my Paca and the BCF to communicate at all through USB, although MIDI works just fine.

I was also wondering about the USB, can it not be plugged directly into a USB port on the Pacarana? Thus avoiding the MIDI issues (this would be pretty neat).

Charlie, I don't have a BCF2000 yet but was considering on, and the Logic environment would be pretty useful for me if you get a chance to upload. Thanks!

The BCF2000 can be used with the Capybara through MIDI (direct connection to the back of the Capybara), with the Paca(rana) through MIDI (via a FireWire or USB MIDI interface connected to the Paca(rana)), or with the Paca(rana) through USB (directly connected to the Paca(rana)).

Please see the configuration instructions here: http://www.symbolicsound.com/Learn/BCF2000

I have tried setting it up as explained in the tweaky section (setting the BCF2000 to "u-1") but when Kyma says it is initialising, the BCF does not receive any data.

Never mind - I just realised that you have to set it up in the DSP status window too.

I was hoping that it would be possible to use USB and MIDI at the same time...

...so itīs not possible to use the BCF2000 via USB with the Paca(rana) at the same time with a MIDI-keyboard connected to an interface on the other USB port? Or have I misunderstood something......?

That's correct. Kyma would like you to select a single MIDI interface (in the DSP Status window).

However, I believe that you can put the BCF2000 into mode U-2 in order to merge the input it receives from its MIDI port with its own MIDI controls and send the merged MIDI messages to its USB MIDI output. So you should be able to merge other controllers with the BCF2k. (See the diagram on page 9 of the German documentation)

Is there a chance, that in the future sometime, Kyma will support multiple MIDI inputs for the Paca/rana? Through USB as well as FW interfaces?

Pretty please?

Trying to push multiple control change and pitch bend data in addition to MIDI timing data puts quite a strain on the good old MIDI standard some times.
