Hello,

I am looking to purchase an audio interface to use along side my Capybara on a Mac Laptop. The main contenders are the Motu Traveler and a RME Hammerfall 2. I would mainly be using it with Logic/Supercollider and Max. Any thoughts, advice?

thanks!

The Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882 had a very good review in the German Keys (December 2005 edition) music magazine.

I myself (also Mac user) have the Edirol FA-66, and I'm really pleased with it - clear, precise sound with excellent bass throughput. Tested it in my first live gig last Saturday (using Live). Hoping the forthcoming AU support will enable me to integrate Kyma into future gigs though! :-)

I've used the MOTU 828 with my G4 for some time now, and I like it very much. From what I've read and heard, the RME Fireface 800 is outstanding, but it's a bit expensive. Like other Kyma users, though, I'm awaiting the drivers that will enable me to run everything through the Capybara and use its converters.

hi

if you are serious about the metric halo and can afford the dsp option, consider it. mac laptops start to choke pretty fast if you run all three of these programs. Their channel strip software comes highly rated and it will help off load some processing to improve your track count and you can purchase it as an option later. On my pb 1.5 ghz using cubase sx3 i can manage six mono disk tracks (10minutes each) with two rev instances and 2 insert fx/track, using the internal drive and 1gig ram with kyma running and all kyma audio sources loaded into capy ram, before i have to start optimizing.

fyi - I just went through this process and decided on a fireface over the metric halo and the only reason the ffire won over is because it can pull down/up and the 2882 cannot! but if you are not syncing in a traditional style post setup with an external video /timecode source you don't need to do this ( the metric halo rep said they have a beta timecode version). the dsp models go for around 1200 us on ebay and by the way i love my fireface and you can find them for around the same new on ebay. one other perk on the fface is it has fw800 -there is no performance gain but you get an independant fw port for your audio interface and the fw400 for the flame and that make the capy a lot happier!

good luck
