So we have to pay to upgrade the software for the hardware we purchased!

What a load of shit, I really can't believe thus.

You do not HAVE to do anything. I am eagerly awaiting my email reply so I can get this upgrade, the workflow improvements are well worth the investment price.

No you don't have to do anything, but all updates I guess on Kyma X stop now. New operating systems are not supported, etc, etc.

I have to deal with this sort of thing with Avid, first with software updates and then when they have you, also with hardware changes. I just expected more from SS. Maybe I'm just stupid.

I have to say your statement is way out of line.
First of all, Symbolic Sound has provided an unbelievable amount of updates over the years free. There is no comparison to the disaster Avid has created with the new Pro Tools policy. And Avid is charging $200-600 per year on top just to stay current. The quality of the software (and hardware) plus the ability to contact the creators of Kyma with a free phone call is unmatched in the audio business. Symbolic Sound have a right to have a huge attitude and they don't.
Don't upgrade if you think it's unfair, but believe me you'll really be missing out on an amazing update!

All I think is that once it starts then where does it end.

Now I'm not saying that that Is what SS has in mind, just that in my mind precedence is an important concept.

"where does it end?"
this is the first paid upgrade in what - 10 years? And depending on how you bought in, I believe that there are discounts. Did you send in your serial # to get a price yet?

Loving the Search update but I'd love to see a search by save date to get to recent (or date specific) files quickly.

regarding the sound engine improvements....it's funny. I just emailed a friend, and said that maybe it's just my excitement over the new version, but the sound (which of course has always been superb) seems enhance. After going through the videos, I didn't have too much energy, was kind of drunk, and just took an analog modular patch that I have had going for a few days, and just put it through the stereo granular reverb - a prototype that I've used often.

I mean - it seemed obvious to me that it sounds even better. I mean, really better....but I want it to, so I suppose I'm not being objective.

The $250 quoted above is definitely not correct for all, maybe this price is for people that purchased their system second hand.

The update for me was free, so I have to take my hat of to SS for not going down the line that I was ranting about earlier.

I should have waited for the email rather than reading this thread!

Yeah my initial thought was that as well, maybee its the new GUI or the excitement, or changes under the hood its hard to be objective.
