Hi all!

This one is purely for fun and tweaking! This attached sound implements a spectral disperser by means of 6 parallel FIR filter banks in each channel. The mono sound just has one such bank, while the stereo version implements two of them, controlled identically between left and right. Feel free to dissect these sounds and extend them to your heart's content.

Each octave band from the GEQ filter bank is sent through an independent delay before remixing with the other bands. These delays have adjustable delay from 0 to 1 sec. and adjustable feedback from -1 to 1. Both the delay and feedback are additionally controlled by an LFO dedicated to each of feedback and delay. You can disable these LFO's by setting their !FMod and !DMod values to zero. They both have adjustable periods as well.

The VCS control panel has a bunch of presets already stored, derived simply by selecting interesting randomizations from the dice button.

There is some disagreement among the experts as to how finely one should chop a spectrum before applying modifications like these. This one uses a rather coarse 1 octave bandwidth for 6 such bands. This is easy to do on Kyma with its built in Sounds. On my Capy 320 the stereo version requires only 4.5 DSP's, as per my meters.

Enjoy!

Hi David,

Thanks for posting this sound. From your description, it looks great ... kinda NI spectral delay with less bands

Unfortunately, I couldn't open it. It seems like the file is corrupted.
It appears in sound browser like a sound file but clicking on the arrow doesn't open it. If I double click on it, I get error msg

cheers
Eric

If you are on a Mac, remember you must "import" the sound before you can use it. I downloaded it with no problem.

Thanks David, it is fun to play with.

Ok guys, I just re-uploaded the "SpectralDispersion" Sound. I can't find my old "FFTWierdness" stuff. No doubt it got absorbed into something else around here.

Trouble is, everytime I upload something, I have to remove something else that was previously uploaded. I long ago hit the limit on the number of uploads you could submit. So that's why some of these sounds disappear...

[Hmmm.. I see from the initial description of this one that I am reinventing some of my own sounds. This one is a basic element of the one I just uploaded called MultibandModulator or some such name... That Sound incorporates this spectral dispersion but using 6 dB/octave filters instead of these steep FIR filters. So the sounds should be different anyway...]

Thanx for re-uploading... Your files are always an inspiration

BTW: if you don't have anything against yahoo their briefcase file sharing scheme is a perfect place to upload some of your kyma files
