Hi All,

I came accross this feature by accident a while ago and I've only seen a passing reference to it on the tweaky and no mention that I can find on the forum or in the manual.

It's the kind of feature that deserves a bit of discussion, I was wondering if anyone else had discovered it and how they use it.
Is this an old feature I've found or a new one?

I'm using it to make collages of different timelines which is quite usefull and fun.
I've also collected a few different pasted timelines into a sound file - although when I drag these back into a timeline they loose their name and appear as an object named "map hot parameters for time line mixer". I dont know if this is a bug or intentional. It's kind of a pain to have to rename them.

Also, can anyone explain the functions of the parameter controls on the tracks that contain pasted time lines?

thanks,
Sean

Hi,

I've used this some. My favorite thing about it is that automated controls (hot variables that are set to "Automate") become capytalk expressions that are a function of time. You can snip this code out and use it wherever you like. So, you can create a fancy envelope using automation for example and then cut and paste the envelope as capytalk in order to have it available outside of timelines.

There are some limitations to the pasted timelines. They don't chase timecode. :-( I love chasing time code, wish it were possible to do it outside of the context of timelines.

Also, a lot of stuff is hardwired in the pasted timeline, like the output channels, etc. I mean, the pasting does exactly the right thing, but it's not very convenient to reuse the resulting sound in a larger context because of all the hardwiring in the sound.

Still, it's a great feature. It's one of the best ways I know to root around and discover mysterious and undocumented features. haha. (I'm not recommending this, just sayin').

Thanks for the tip - I never knew about this feature - something new to try out with Kyma, even though I have the Capy since a decade!!!
