![]() ![]() ![]() The Kwerk Experiment can be found at http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/Sounds Under the synth category. This is very much work in progress I've included reverb to help give it natural sound. You can not stop and replay in the middle as this will put the partials out of sync. Also not working at 44.1 khz or using a SOS file not analyzed with 128 sines will also put the kwerk out of sinc. I don't really know if the Kwerk is working correctly and as I and no one else has heard one before, it's hard to say if the sound is right. Press trigger and it will take a bit of time to get into it so you have to be patient. Pete IP: Logged

![]() ![]() ![]() 'I don't really know if the Kwerk is working correctly and as I and no one else has heard one before, it's hard to say if the sound is right.' LOL - Classic. Ok Sir Pete, I have Kwerked around, I 'get' Stretch Kwerk, put my files in: Kwerk Out! Immediate tangible questions: The Oscills 3&5 display moving funky redline things are awesome, just not sure what it all means. I am thinking I am supposed to feed the sound some audio, but I am a bit worried. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Charlie The Kwerk is based on Sum of sines re-synthesize. In Kwerk stretch Module you have a sound in the spect module that is an analysis of your signal. At the moment it is limited to 128 harmonics. The KWERK module contains a stereo sound file which is really a recording of the pre processed Kwerk. Although it is a stereo Aiff it's not an audio file as we know it, but a spectrum file which contains a pair of serial data streams of frame size of 128 amplitudes on the left and 128 pitches on the right. In this case I have already processed the Kwerk of my own voice going AAH. To hear what is going on, Put ReverbL and ReverbR to zero. Then pull the stretch down to say 70. Now with the Kwerk at 0 you will hear the stretched (non Kwerked) version of the input signal. Press trigger to start the sound playing. Turning up the Kwerk will add the pitch and amplitude deviations of the AHH sound which stops the stretched input sounding like slowly moving oscillators. If you want to hear the original unaffected input, put the stretch to 1 and Kwerk to 0. You need to hit keep hitting trigger to get the sound started again. The other module RECORD KWERK 7 is the module to make the KWERK file in the first place. It needs a signal that is a constant pitch like my voice going AHH. It is best at pitch 173 hz as that is the analysis frequency. You put your audio sound file in the module named "Put source sample in here and.....". You may need to verispeed you sample before hand to get to a good pitch. The signal is then looped forwards and backwards as per the two up down indicators Osc3 Osc5 so you can adjust the StartLoop and EndLoop point to get a clean constant sound and get rid of the startup or end of the signal. The crossfade helps smooth the forward backward change over. Un-ticking the RevLoop makes the loop go in just one direction. The two scope displays above show the amplitude and pitch frames. If you now move the smoothamp and smoothpitch to 1 you will see and hear the signal become static (frozen). Moving the Kwerk control up to 1 will subtract the original signal from the smoothed version and you will only see the deviations from the norm. You may need to zoom in to see the pitch deviations. You will hear nothing as the pitch is now averaging out at zero hz. There is a full scale spike at the end of every frame mixed in for editing later. You are now ready to record the kwerk file. You may want to give the DiscRecored2 a different path and file name but this has to be done before you start the sound. Tick rec (record arm) and then hit trigger when you are ready. This will record a stereo audio file in the form of a 128 spectrum file which can be used as the Kwerk for other files. Complicated I know but I can't think of a simpler way of doing it. hope it makes sense Pete IP: Logged
