I am considering a Lynx Aurora setup for my Pacarana and studio and was considering this setup:

1. Aurora 8
2. LT-FW > Pacarana
3. AES > Lynx AES16e (installed in my MacProi)

I think using this setup would let me route audio via the Paca (via FW) either to the analog IO and the AES IO. Alternatively, I can route audio via my computer through the AES16e to the analog IO or the Paca (back via FW). Reading through the manual, this seems very doable as each IO channel has source and destination routings.

My questions are:
1. Has anyone tried this and are there any issues or things to be aware of?
2. It appears that LT-FW uses standard Core Audio drivers but default while the LynxAESe uses a dedicated custom driver. However, they do seem to share some overlap software in the Remote Control software. Would this be an issue? Do you have to uninstall the Remote Control software when using the Aurora with the Pacarana. I can buy another brand of AES card like the RME HDSPe if that would prove to be easier and reduce conflicts (RME also makes great drivers so that is nice).

Thanks for any help with this.

We are not aware of anyone using this exact configuration, but, since the Lynx uses the built-in Apple FireWire audio drivers, it should not be a problem.

We have tested the control panel software while streaming audio from Kyma and did not have any trouble. The only caveats are:

1. Do not use the control panel software to change the sample rate or clock source of the Lynx when using the Lynx as the Pacarana interface.

2. Whenever you would like to use the Lynx as the Pacarana interface, be sure that the Lynx is not selected in Audio MIDI Setup.

Great!

It turns out I found a great local deal on the RME AES pci-e so it looks like I am going to go that route connecting the computer to the Aurora.

I finally got a chance to play around with the setup. SXSW + house guests meant little studio access time.

So this setup does work:

Computer > Pacarana FW800
Computer > Aurora 8 FW400
RME HDSPe (slotted in the computer) > Aurora 8 via AES channels 9-16
RME HDSPe > Dynaudio Air monitors via AES channels 1-2 (channels 3-8 currently unused)

The tricky is part is that it seems the Aurora configuration software is not very good on the Mac platform. It won't even launch on the Mac Pro and on the MacBook it slams the midiserver so bad that it consumes all the resources and hangs. I got it run on windows PC. However, it doesn't like to run when kyma is active on the Mac so you needed to configure and then unplug from the PC. YMMV.

In the control panel, make sure to use the 8 analog + 8 digital IO option.
Then on the digital IO panel, under the settings options:

To Analog Out: Remote
To Digital Out: Remote
To LSlot Out: Digital Out

Under Digital Output meters configure source A & source B. I left source A as the analog IO. On source B, choose Lslot 1-8 and double check that you unmute all the channels (they are muted by default).

Under the Analog Output do the same for source A & B but on source A select the Digital (aka AES) IO. Source B then is the LSlot. Again check that everything is unmuted.

The net effect is that you can then route audio from the analog inputs to either your computer via AES or to Kyma via the Slot. You can also route audio to the analog outputs from either Kyma or the computer. Additionally, the Aurora acts as a digital IO bridge.

For me this I don't use a lot of analog IO but now I can share the wonderful analog convertors of the Aurora between Kyma & my computer when I need them but stay in the digital domain between the kyma & computer.

Thanks, Ben! (Would it be ok with you if we included the results of your research on the tweaky as well?)
