I am getting an error when trying to open a .wav file in the sample file editor. The error is 'the file contains fewer samples than its header indicates.' And subsequently the file does not open.

I've also gotten this error - 'The message#sumFromInteger;, sent to nil, an instance of class UndefinedObject, was not understood.'

What do these errors mean? Is there a work around to get the files to open in the sample file editor?

Could you please create a short .wav file that has this problem and attach it to an email to support@symbolicsound.com? Thanks!

I made a snippet of the .wav file I couldn't open with the sample file editor. I used protools to make the snippet. And lo and behold, when I tested to see if the snippet would open in the sample file editor, it did. I also tried converting the entire file in itunes, and that also opened up just fine after converting.

The files that give me the error 'contains fewer samples than its header indicates' were created with a tascam field recorder. Perhaps this recorder puts some metadata in the file, which could be tripping up the sample editor? Coverting the file in itunes is an easy work around. I am curious to know more about what the error is telling me.

I've received a similar error when trying to run a 32-bit FP .wav file through the capybara 320. Only 24 integer audio files will run. As far as I understand, though, the paca(rana) can handle 32 integer and float. maybe try bringing the bit depth down?

We found that the program that created this WAVE file is saving an incorrect value in the file header; this incorrect value is causing the error message in Kyma.

We have modified Kyma to be more forgiving of these sorts of errors and will open these files without complaining. The change will be available with the next update to Kyma.
