vKA is the newest member of Harmony Systems' Delora family of software products that enhance and expand your Kyma system. vKA is a member of the "V" family of Mac user agent software solutions that expand the different range of controllers that provide tight integration with Kyma's VCS. vKA transforms your Akai APC40 hardware controller into a Kyma Virtual Control Surface, delivering most of the features of the VCS in an intuitive, easy to use manner. You can use the APC40's sixteen smooth action rotary controls and its numerous lighted push button switches to interact with your Kyma sonic creations in a natural, inspiring manner. And since vKA fully supports the control banking scheme that Kyma uses with the MotorMix and vM2 you can control more than just eight VCS faders and rotaries.

The APC40 of course was developed as a dedicated control surface for Ableton Live. vKA respects this usage and fully supports using the APC40 to control Live and Kyma at the same time. vKA has special “smarts” that enable it to alternate between “Live mode” and “VCS mode” without missing a beat. And since the APC40 was designed for use in a challenging "on stage" environment it makes an ideal performance controller for Kyma, even if you do not use Live. But vKA is not just for on stage. Its full Kyma VCS integration and tactile controls make it an essential ingredient for any Kyma studio.

vKA includes all those features and details you would expect from a Delora Software product like its full support of the new Paca(rana) "MIDI over OSC" capability, and "set up once and forget about it" ease-of-use. You can find additional vKA details at http://www.delora.com/delora_products/vka/vka.html including a diagram that illustrates how the APC40's numerous controls are used to control Kyma. If you would like to begin using vKA please contact us at beta@delora.com and we will be happy to add you to the vKA beta team.

Thank you,

Doug

Wow that's really cool! I bet this actually sells some Kyma systems. The OSC support in Kyma is truly going to pay off huge.

Thanks for supporting Kyma with such wonderful products.

Thank you, Doug!

BTW, there is a small typo in the link, so if people want a clickable link to your new page, here it is:

Wow! It seems like Doug et al have some very interesting things up their sleeves

I had a quick read through the page and it seems to suggest that this works with both generations of hardware. Being a Capybara 320 LS owner I would be interested if this is compatible with my setup? I suspect not, as the Behringer control surface support was not possible, but would like to clarify.

vKA supports Capybaras using a conventional MIDI connection between the computer and the Capy. This works the same way that vM2 works (which also supports Capybaras).

Basically vKA is a variation on the "virtual MotorMix theme". Kyma's VCS natively supports control surfaces that support the MotorMix standard. vKA (and vM2) provide a means to convert between MotorMix and what ever control standard the controller supports. In the case of vKA that would be the APC40's "native language".

So in summary if your Capybara supports a MotorMix, and you have a bidirectional MIDI connection between your Mac and your Capybara, then vKA and vM2 will automatically provide VCS hands-on control.

BTW all of this is somewhat unrelated to the burgeoning OSC support now present in the Paca(rana). vM2 and vKA more or less use the OSC path to a Paca(rana) as a convenient, efficient way to send the MotorMix compatible MIDI commands. This is why vM2 and vKA will still do their job if you choose to use a MIDI connection to the Paca(rana).
