Is there some way of implementing this, but with a slight difference - instead of the trigger starting the sample from the beginning, it will continue from where it left off the last time it was triggered?

One possibility is to set the Frequency to 0 when you deselect a sample. For example, start with Crossfade InterpolateN.

Set LeftInterp and RightInterp to:
!Index / 4 (where 4 is the number of inputs)

Then set each of the inputs' frequency fields to:

default * (!Index eq: 3) (where 3 is the number of this input)

Then when you change !Index (set its range to 0,3). Each time you change it, you return to exactly where you left off the last time you had selected that sample.
