![]() ![]() ![]() I was happy to see Kyma discussed on my favorite music blog this morning. http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/03/08/osc-kyma-ipad-and-beyond/comment-page-1/#comment-1035323 OSC Support was a great idea. So happy it happened. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I agree, it's great! I am, however, a bit slow in picking up knowledge on networks. Does anyone have any good links or books for understanding networking with the goal of mastering OSC? Rob IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() quote: Hi Rob, I would say that you definitely don't need to read up on networking to understand OSC. It might actually just confuse you to do so. The wikipedia entry might be a good jump off point. I think with OSC though it helps to first phrase the question, "What are you trying to do or connect" Then there are probably some good examples out there to try. I would certainly help with any questions you might have. Cheers, BTW..a video I made of using OSC with Kyma got posted as well on CDM today. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you kindly, and lovely video! ![]() I have read the wiki entry, but I definitely need to read it again a few times. I would like to start with controlling Kyma using TouchOSC on my iPod. I have already done this using OSCulator, but I like to control a large amount of parameters with the iPod using the dual EQ presets (two rows of faders). Needless to say this takes a while to set up manually, so anything that's faster than that is a plus. I think I will buy a wifi router to dedicate for this task, because setting up internet sharing on my Mac G4 PPC laptop has not been successful so far. I only have a vague understanding of OSC so far, and only recently started using a Mac (it's not that long ago that I got my first PC!) but setting up a network isn't too much of a challenge. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please check out the Open Sound Control documentation on the tweaky: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Learn/OpenSoundControlDocumentation There is a link specifically about touchOSC: IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you SSC. I get stuck on the "set up internet sharing" bit, so I think the best way to go is to get a router. I have used a wifi router located in an other room for the TouchOSC + OSCulator combo, but it loses connection frequently enough to not be very useful. I have also run out of ethernet connections on this router, but will try a temporary wired connection to the Paca when I have time, to test it out. I am sure that with time I will get it to work, but the iPod wifi seems to me not very stable, even when in close proximation to the wifi point. My knowledge about networks is a little scetchy, so I need to read up on this too. We have had a neighbour running a pirate radio station around here in the past which has caused us much wifi grief, but I hope it is gone now! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I finally got a router for OSC purposes alone, and really really love the quick setup time this allows for! Now I can quickly set up 64 parameters for use with TouchOSC with minimal fuss. The router isn't even connected to the internet, it is just a cheap router bought on amazon and it has made life so easy for me! The connection seems very stable as well now - I might even consider the iPad if it stays this stable... Just an idea - has anyone thought of having Kyma set up so that it can be remote controlled over the internet? IP: Logged |
