Hi, for all reasons not relevant to good people on this forum I had to migrate my studio computer to Windows 7 64-bit.
I would like to set up Kyma in the studio (I have Capybara module).
For this I would need a 64-bit driver for Windows 7 and a full installation of the latest version of Kyma (preferably 64-bit).

Kyma has been working with Windows 7 64-bit for some time now. If you get the latest Windows version from the tweaky, you should be all set. (Inside the Contents folder inside KymaX.app, there is a Windows Driver Installer folder. Double-click on the 64-bit installer application).

If you have not already done so, you should install from the CD-ROM first to ensure that you have all the support files. But you should stop before reaching the driver installation (just skip over that part and instead install it according to the instructions in the previous post).

Thanks!

Thank you for a prompt reply.
It took me some time to dig up the original CD.
What is your default location on Windows? "Program Files"?
Is New version of Kyma a 32-bit application or 64-bit?
I am asking since the 32-bit applications should go to "Program Files (x86)". I know it souldn't matter in the end, but I am just trying to make a new install consistent, at least for the time being.

We usually recommend putting Kyma directly on the c drive (to avoid any issues with permissions), but you can put it anywhere you like.

Hi SSC!

I am unsuccessful with 64 bit Windows7: Capybara320 is recognized,
but I can not install driver for Flame and Pacarana: the driver installer (64-bit) just does nothing.

What I have:
Capybara320 with Flame interface, Firewire-400 cable, computer with Core i7 CPU.

What I do:

* Windows 7, Professional, Russian, fresh install + some USB drivers for another music equipment + Windows update.
* Kyma X CD - copy everything from folder Kyma to C:\Kyma
* Kyma X.81 - downloaded from Tweaky, unzipped, put its Kyma X.app instead of that in C:\Kyma
(on 32-bit Vista, this ideally worked)

* Connected Firewire cable: some device was recognized and configured.

Now in Device Manager there are 2 devices:
* Symbolic Sound Corporation Capybara SBP-2 IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device
(driver installed, device working)
* Symbolic_Sound_Corporation&FLAME_Flash_Services
(! driver not found)

Kyma X started, does not find the Kyma device and exits.

Now I try to install the 64-bit driver:
find C:\Kyma\Kyma X.app\Contents\Windows Driver Installer
double-click the "Driver Install 64 bit" (actually, 32-bit too)
The alert appears if I allow it to run.
I allow.. and nothing: the program silently disappears and the driver is still not installed.

Additional information: I found in system logs the following record
(translating from Russian, so maybe not exact words)
Source: Wow64 Emulation Layer
Description: Could not start program or component "\??\C:\Kyma\Program\Splash.exe" due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of Windows.

(On the other side, I can not repeat this error log starting all them: 64-bit installer, 32-bit installer, Kyma X itself. May be this is feature of Windows to not repeat records.)

The same the Pacarana: driver not installed.

What should I do?
I could not attach screenshots for demonstration but can send by email.

PS. Sorry if the solution is elementary! Let this thread be the teaching manual

Hi Peter,

Please go to the Device Manager and right click on the Symbolic Sound Corporation Capybara SBP-2 IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device and choose Update Driver from the pop-up menu.

Next, there will be a series of windows asking you about where to find the updated driver. Please find the file called FlameXP.inf, found in kyma/Kyma X.app/Contents/Windows Driver Installer/INF

If the driver update is successful, you will end up with three devices in the SBP2 category.

If this does not work, try removing the Symbolic Sound Corporation Capybara SBP-2 IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device, then turn off the Pacarana. Then when the Pacarana is turned on next, direct the Add New Hardware wizard to the FlameXP.inf file.

Thanks! It helped.

(Actually, I tried before updating drivers from Device Manager from other INF filder on CD, but it really too old: 02 oct. 2003. This one installed all right. Capybara and Pacarana work now.)

For later users in this situation, you need also to install additional files from tweaky: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Know/KymaXAdditionalFiles
